The Gradual Interview
Moderator: Seareach
Well, neither of those ideas works unless SRD is misdirecting us. He said he doesn't plan to make substantial revisions to his works, since he's a different author than he was before.
And he did write that he writes the books and has nothing to do with the movies...
Anyhoo... I hope it's neither of those things. I assumed it was some publicity blurb or something

He said this isn't something he wants to do, it's something his publishers are demanding. It wouldn't be substantial revisions, as I see it. His point is perfectly valid, he is a different writer than he was 30 years ago. But there are places, especially in LFB, where the grammar could be cleaned up, the rhythm adjusted, little things like that.Believer wrote:Well, neither of those ideas works unless SRD is misdirecting us. Never could the ideas be changed, or even touched, in a revision.Variol smiled up at Tamarantha, and she returned his gaze from the high back of the Ranyhyn. Their faces were full of satisfaction and calm expectancy, which they shared in the silent marriage of their eyes.

SRD himself doesn't think so. At the dinner he said that if he had done a better job as a writer than there would not be so much controversy over some of the characters and their actions, such as Elena and Kevin. He is hoping that the Third Chrons will address and answer many such questions and controversies.Furls Fire wrote:Dragonlily wrote:Who else thinks the secret project is a revised version of the 1st Chrons?![]()

I, too, expect him to pull a Bob Newhart on us.
In his first television series, "The Bob Newhart Show," he played a psychiatrist. In his second series, "Newhart," his character took over a New England inn. In the last episode of the second series, his character is hit in the head by a golf ball - and wakes up back in the first series. The second series being nothing but a dream.
But maybe that wouldn't happen - the Ravers would need to be renamed Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. "Hi. My name is Larry. This is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl. We're going to consume your soul now." LOL!!
The Secret Project.... Hmmmmm.... Okay - I'll let you in on it. There was so much intrest lately in the picture of him and the cat (from the old book club version of LFB - with the ghostly looking Lord Foul on the cover) that Steve's been trying to contact Steven King. He wants to find the location of the fabled Pet Sematary so he can bring the cat back to life and take more pictures with it.
But I think he may have misspoke when he called this a "secret project." I'm pretty sure I know what he's referring to, and it's more like "a tedious project given to him by his publishers that he'd rather not go into details about." Nothing glamorous like a first chron rewrite or a movie deal.
I could be wrong, though. It could be that he's working on cloning himself. He DID promise in the GI that he'd never die.

And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

I saw that episode, funny stuff!! I was just joking about the last chrons ending that way...I hope he doesn't do that to us!!

I always thought that the "project" was just him doing the proofs for Runes for final publication. *shrug*
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~
...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

Hm. I wonder if he will resolve the ambiguities by making them more or less sympathetic.duchess of malfi wrote:SRD himself doesn't think so. I don't see the controversies with the characters as SRD's failings as a writer at all. That's why I like those characters. Don't change anything!duchess of malfi wrote:SRD himself doesn't think so. Additionally, I'm becoming more and more jealous of those of you who were at the interview that night. It seems that you're hording information - GIVE!

I think people have been holding back so everyone else can see the video and experience it for themselves. Plus, he gave us an incredible amount of information.dlbpharmd wrote:I don't see the controversies with the characters as SRD's failings as a writer at all. That's why I like those characters. I believe that Fist and I have already given his answers about Kevin and Elena in the dinner thread.
Also about how he cacoons himself in music as he works...
One of the other very interesting answers he gave was about the importance of Linden to him -- she inspired him to go toe to toe with his editor at that time and truly defend his artistic integrity...make a huge stand on behalf of his work...
OK, Duchess - push the knife in a little deeper, you're not all the way through my heart to my spine yet. Also, would you please rub salt into the wound? Would you like to come to my house and kick my pet cat? IS THERE ANY WAY YOU CAN HURT ME MORE?Plus, he gave us an incredible amount of information.
