M. Night Shyamalan

What can one say, he's freaking brilliant, I love his movies, yeah they're standard plots and are predictable but so were most of Hitchcock who is paying tribute to in all his films. I enjoyed them quite a bit and look forward to The Villiage, one of my favorite directors. Cheers.

I didn't like Signs. The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were awesome, however (perhaps I had my hopes set too high for Signs). The Village should be good, but there's no way I'm wasting my time watching the stupid thing SciFi is running.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I didn't think Sixth Sense or Unbreakable were either "standard" or "predictable". Haven't seen Signs, but I admire Shyamalan on the strength of the two I have seen.

I thought that Unbreakable was tosh, but loved Signs and thought that Sixth Sense was good.

Yep - loved all his movies. Unbreakable is probably the second best superhero movie next to Spidey2.

I've managed to stay spoiler free on this as his movies need to be seen with no foreknowledge.

I've been meaning to see Unbreakable since it was new, but I've never got round to it. I liked Signs, but I made the mistake of going with someone who had seen it before, and hid her face two minutes before each shock/surprise etc... :x

I agree about Signs, Syl. I thought I liked it but something kept nagging me about it: I kept waiting for the "payoff", but it felt like the movie was coasting/going nowhere the whole time. Sixth Sense is a masterpiece, though, and Unbreakable's great.

I enjoyed the slow, creepy pace of Signs until

it was ruined by the attack of the aliens. I was expecting something a bit more shocking. The physical confrontation with the aliens turned it into a typical suspense/horror movie.
Looking forward to The Village. Looks pretty good.

Well, I must say the Village was brilliant. We both enjoyed it immensely, and I intend to see it again on dvd.

I liked Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable was interesting to say the least... But Signs really bothered me. Sure, the begining of the movie was good and funny and interesting...but I HATED the ending. It bothers me to no end. The ending was way too stupid...

I will watch anything M. Night Shyamalan makes. He has ideas that are ages ahead of everyone else. He can take a wash out plot and make it a suspense thriller.

Signs seemed to be a tribute to all those cheesy 60s and 70s B-grade science fiction movies. Taken in that context, I think it was brilliant. The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were fantastic. The Village, well.....I figured it out relatively quickly.

I've liked every one of his films.

Sixth Sense was great the first time, still very, very good in successive viewings.

Unbreakable was good the first time and gets better each time.

Signs was great the first time and gets slightly worse each viewing.

The Village was well-done, but didn't end the way I felt it should have, still decent.

Lady in the Water has some serious issues, but I still liked it a lot.

And despite the criticism, I thought Happening was very good, has it's issues - just different from the mainstream stuff he usually does.

But. He might be...how does one say it, kind of like Mike when he released that LP a couple years ago...
