Where to begin with this list??
I'm interested in THX 1138. Also looking forward to the Star Wars trilogy in September. (Gee, that's an understatement.)
I also wish for the release of Little Buddha on DVD. It's a Bernardo Bertolucci film that came and went without much fanfare in 1994, but it's one of my all-time favorites. It's another beautifully photographed movie by Vittorio Storaro.
I'm also hoping Metropolitan appears on DVD one of these days. It's a 1990 satire by Whit Stillman about an outsider who meets and ends up making friends with a group of upper class New York intellectual socialites (that's a mouthful). The dialogue is super sharp and funny. Odd as it may sound, the story moves me as well. Another all-time favorite.

I have neither seen the film or read the book, but I've been told the two are completely different in concept. That the humans in the book use mechanical suits of armour to obliterate armies of alien bugs, and that most of the book is the protagonist's experience of boot camp.
But back onto the topic at hand: I'm looking to get Zulu on dvd, ever since it came to light recently that my mum knows a decendant of one of the men who was actually at Rorke's Drift - Fred Hinch.
I also seek vampire films, for no apparent reason. We'll see what becomes of that.

I absolutely love all of Whit Stillman's films. Although I think this one is really special. I have them on vhs right now and would love the DVDs. Good one MM. Of course I could mention THX, but won't (hurrah says everyone).Matrixman wrote:

Topsy-Turvy apparently came out on DVD for about 5 minutes, then went back in before I could get a copy.
This is the movie about Gilbert and Sullivan and the making of The Mikado. It starred Jim Broadbent, but I liked some of the other actors even better, such as Shirley Henderson, who played the leading actress, and Martin Savage, who played George Grossmith, the main character actor.
For those who like Gilbert & Sullivan music, this movie is a treat from end to end, and that's even before beginning to consider the characterization.
I'm making do with the copy I taped from TV, but I'd love to have it more durable.

Oh yes, it's such a tragic but beautiful story. When Meggie tells Ralph that Dane was his son, it tears me up everytime...
Oh, and I just cheer aloud everytime I see Meggie tell Luke off when she finally leaves him. YOU GO GIRL!!!
And Barbara Stanwyke was just amazing as Mary Carson!

Still can't find Rashomon. Damn it! Looks like I'll be asking Barnes & Noble to order it. Bah.
