Rejected/since day one
My name is/Bastard Son
I've been dead/so many times I've lost count
Blue collar/working man
Devices/masterplan
Bi-polar/with a mental side-arm

I'm sick and, I'm twisted
I'm broke and you can't fix it
Don't make me, cause I'll do it
Red button and we'll all go

Into the river below
I'm running from the inferno
They'll think I'm insane
But you'll all know my name
Into the river below
I'm running from the inferno
I'll take all the blame
The frontpage and the fame

Contraption/Made up of
Nuts and bolts/Creates the
New monster/To burn your family tree down
Tick-tocking/Time's up now
Split second/The world frowns
Lonley heart/Never had nobody

I'm sick and, I'm twisted
I'm broke and you can't fix it
Don't make me, cause I'll do it
Red button and we'll all go

Into the river below
I'm running from the inferno
They'll think I'm insane
But you'll all know my name
Into the river below
I'm running from the inferno
I'll take all the blame
The frontpage and the fame
I'll take all the blame
The frontpage and the fame
Into the river below
Into the river below
Into the river below
Into the river below

Into the river below
I'm running from the inferno
They'll think I'm insane
But you'll all know my name
Into the river below
I'm running from the inferno
I'll take all the blame
The frontpage and the fame
Yeah I'll take all the blame
The frontpage and the fame
But you'll all know my name
And they'll think im insane
But you'll all know my name
But they'll think im insane
For some reason a lot of places give the wrong lyrics to that. They change 'devices', 'bi-polar', 'mental side-arm', 'red button', 'the world frowns', and even 'made up of'... Perhaps they're trying to make the meaning more ambiguous?

Trans Am by Neil Young

The wagons in the valley
had pulled up for the night
Seth said
"go get the plow out Merle,
this place looks just right"
By then they were surrounded,
by dawn they all were dead
I heard this from
the old Trans Am,
up the road ahead
That cowboy just kept talking,
I thought I heard him say
He used to ride the Santa Fe
before the tracks were laid

Trans Am

A nasty wind was blowing
through the gates of Eden Park
One was swinging
and one was hanging,
and the street lights all were dark
It crawled along the boulevard
with two wheels on the grass
That old Trans Am was dying hard,
but still had lots of gas
The golden gate was open wide,
the sun came shining through
Where once
the angels stood and cried
everything was new

Trans Am

Global manufacturing,
hands across the sea
The hotel filled with dealers,
everything was free
Before the competition,
ahead of all the rest
The product was presented,
it clearly was the best
The power link was ruptured,
the hotel shook and rolled
The old Trans Am
just bounced around
and took another road

Trans Am

An old friend showed up at the door
The mile posts flying by
He said come on, I said what for
He said I'll show you why
I got a call from north of here
They said some girl's broke down
There's good money in it
for you and me
If we can get her back to town
She's somewhere north of Barstow
Lost on 66
An old Trans Am
by the side of the road
That needs a headlight fixed

Trans Am
fall far and well Pilots!

Wake Up - Missy Elliot
If you don't got a gun
It's all right
If you're makin legal money
It's all right
If you gotta keep your clothes on
It's all right
You ain't got a cellular phone
It's all right
Hey your wheels don't spin
It's all right
And you gotta wear them jeans again
It's all right
Sum sui generis
Vs
You do not hear, and so you cannot be redeemed.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

"Barnyard Story", by Procol Harum

Chicken in the farmyard, there's an oven in your bin
You're growing old with sorrow, you're growing fat with sin
I was living in the graveyard, I was hanging from the wall
I was living in the desert, I was trying not to fall

Once I stood upon Olympus, then the heavens opened wide
I beheld that flaming chariot and I saw the sacred bride
Now and then my life seems truer, now and then my thoughts seem pure
All in all, my thoughts are fewer - maybe death will be my cure

"Too Much Between Us", by Procol Harum

There's you, you're sleeping over there
whilst me I'm sitting here
with so much sea between us
I can't make it much more clear
There'll be no time for crying
We won't make it more than six
I could change my plea to guilty
but I don't think it would stick
Still those other ratings far too easy to despise
You've said so much in silence now I truly am disguised

Let him who fears his heart alone
stand up and make a speech
For him perhaps an emperor's throne
if he could only speak
Far too few and far to follow
For shame I'll heed the cry
Be with me when I need a drink
be with me when I die
Still those other ratings far too easy to despise
You've said so much in silence now indeed I am disguised

Two completely random songs that I've been really into lately. Don't ask my why they are these two songs...but here they are:
Wish Fulfillment by Sonic Youth
I see your wishes on the wall, that's all right with me
I see you run to make a call, hoping that there's someone free
Your life and my life they don't touch at all, and that's no way to be
We've never seemed so far

What's real? What is true?
I ain't turning my back on you
Where you goin'? Where've yabeen?
Making wishes, watching dreams

It might be simple, it might be true, I might be overwhelmed by you
You might be empty, the way your eyes just look right through
It's such a mess now anyway, wish fulfillment- every day
I don't believe you, now I can't hear a word you say

I see you shaking in the light, reading the headline news
The others, they're not quite so bright, we want them to choose you
I could almost see your face tonight, singing simple rhythm and blues
You'll always be a star

shake it baby! C'mon! Scream!
Just see your face in a magazine!
don't doubt it! leave Chris sore
I can't stand it anymore

It's my favorite shot of you, you look so pretty, your eyes were true
I'm still on your side, in spite of everything you do
We're only blood on blood on life, you paint my pictures every night (?)
Come wish beside me, don't you know you know what's right

Fat Old Sun by Pink Floyd

When that fat old sun in the sky is falling,
Summer evening birds are calling
Summer, Sunday, and a year
The sound of music in my ears
Distant bells, new mown grass smells so sweet
By the river,holding hands
Roll me up and lay me down

And if you see, don't make a sound
Pick your feet up off the ground
And if you hear, as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange
Sing to me, sing to me

When that fat old sun in the sky is falling
Summer evening birds are calling
Children's laughter in my ears
The last sunlight disappears
And if you see don't make a sound
Pick your feet up off the ground
And if you hear, as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange
Sing to me, sing to me
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling...(Gilmour breaks into a kickass, emotional-sounding guitar solo)

the Shadow of Your Smile

The shadow of your smile
when you are gone
will color all my dreams
that light the dawn

Look into my eyes oh my love
and you will see
All the lovely things
that you are to me

Our wistful little star
was far too high
A tearddrop kissed your lips
and so did I

Now when I remember spring
and all the joys tht love can bring
I would be remembering
the shadow of your smile
"let the storm of thought spend itself. Presently you will arrive upon a calm sea."......Walter Lanyon

Fear by Sarah McLachlan

Morning smiles
like the face
of a newborn child,
innocent, unknowing.

Winter's end
promises
of a long lost friend.
Speaks to me of comfort

but I fear
I have nothing to give.
I have so much
to lose here in this lonely place.
Tangled up in your embrace
there's there's nothing I'd like better than
to fall.

but I fear
I have nothing to give.

Wind in time
rapes the flower
trembling on the vine
and nothing yields to shelter
from above.
They say temptation will destroy our love.
The never ending hunger

but I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much
to lose here in this lonely place
tangled up in our embrace
there's nothing I'd like better than
to fall

but I fear
I have nothing to give.
I have so much to lose.
I have nothing to give.
We have so much to lose...

Shine On Brightly, by Procol Harum

My Prussian-blue electric clock's
alarm bell rings, it will not stop
and I can see no end in sight
and search in vain by candlelight
for some long road that goes nowhere
for some signpost that is not there
And even my befuddled brain
is shining brightly, quite insane

The chandelier is in full swing
as gifts for me the three kings bring
of myrrh and frankincense, I'm told,
and fat old Buddhas carved in gold
And though it seems they smile with glee
I know in truth they envy me
and watch as my befuddled brain
shines on brightly quite insane

Above all else confusion reigns
And though I ask no-one explains
My eunuch friend has been and gone
He said that I must soldier on
And though the Ferris wheel spins round
my tongue it seems has run aground
and croaks as my befuddled brain
shines on brightly, quite insane

In Held 'Twas In I : Look to Your Soul, Procol Harum

I know if I'd been wiser this would never have occurred
but I wallowed in my blindness so it's plain that I deserve
for the sin of self-indulgence when the truth was writ quite clear
I must spend my life amongst the dead who spend their lives in fear
of a death that they're not sure of, of a life they can't control
It's all so simple really if you just look to your soul

Some say that I'm a wise man, some think that I'm a fool
It doesn't matter either way: I'll be a wise man's fool
For the lesson lies in learning and by teaching I'll be taught
for there's nothing hidden anywhere, it's all there to be sought
And so if you know anything look closely at the time
at others who remain untrue and don't commit that crime

two sets of lyrics I like lots

Post by taraswizard »

OK, so the first one is very generic, but mentioned Paul Simon's traveling lyrics So here's Paul Simon's America
"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag"
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America

"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

Laughing on the bus
Playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera"

"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat"
"We smoked the last one an hour ago"
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field

"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all gone to look for America
All gone to look for America
All gone to look for America[
My contribution, probably junk.

Whaling Stories, by Procol Harum

Pailing well after sixteen days, a mammoth task was set
Sack the town, and rob the tower, and steal the alphabet
Close the door and bar the gate, but keep the windows clean
God's alive inside a movie! Watch the silver screen!

Rum was served to all the traitors; pygmies held themselves in check
Bloodhounds nosed around the houses, down dark alleys sailors crept
Six bells struck, the pot was boiling - soup spilled out on passers-by
Angels mumbled incantations, closely watched by God on high

Lightning struck out - fire and brimstone! Boiling oil and shrieking steam!
Darkness struck with molten fury, flashbulbs glorified the scene
Not a man who had a finger, not a man who could be seen
Nothing called (not name nor number) - Echo stormed its final scream

Daybreak washed with sands of gladness, rotting all it rotted clean
Windows peeped out on their neighbors, inside fireside bedsides gleam
SHALIMAR, the trumpets chorused, angels wholly all shall take
Those alive will meet the prophets, those at peace shall see their wake

Brinn wrote:Here's another favorite of mine:

"Jupiter and Teardrop" by Grant Lee Buffalo (it's a tragic love song and always make me melancholy)
JUPITER AND TEARDROP

Just a girl who can't say no
And her sweetheart on parole
Parents named her Jupiter
To bless her with a lucky soul
He's a boy who never cried
When they locked him up inside
And she nicknamed him her teardrop
For the tattoo by his eye

Now she's sleeping in her bed
And he's sleeping in her bed
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop

She divines by radio
Pushing buttons show to show
And she wonders 'bout the fate of
Lovers in the barrio
She forgets after a while
When she tunes in on the dial
Jackie Wilson's Lonely Teardrops
And she drives another mile

Now she's sleeping in her bed
And he's sleeping in her bed
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop

And they want to have a child
Walk together down the aisle
But the world they live in is mean
And it's built on sheer denial
The phone rings it's for her
Got to see ya Jupiter
I'm in trouble with the law
Bring my 38 caliber

Now she's sleeping in her bed
As she pulls the phone plug dead dead
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop oh
And it's Jupiter and Teardrop
And it's Jupiter and Tear oh
And it's Jupiter and Tear
Oh oh
Ooh ooh ooh[\quote]
Hi. Really new to the board and I've slowly been wading my way through. Saw this and was immediately intrigued. Not being familiar with the guy at all, I checked him out on Rhapsody and WOW!

Thanks Brinn. It's always good to discover new music. :D

Calexico - "Sunken Waltz"
washed my face in the rivers of empire
made my bed from a cardboard crate
down in the city of quartz
no news, no new regrets
tossed a Susan B. over my shoulder
and prayed it would rain and rain
submerge the whole western states
call it a last fair deal
With an American seal
and corporate hand shake

take the story of carpenter Mike
dropped his tools and his keys and left
and headed out as far as he could
past the cities and gated neighborhoods
he slept 'neath the stars
wrote down what he dreamt
and he built a machine
for no one to see
then took flight, first light
of new morning
Some other great lyrics from this band here
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. I'm pretty sure I've posted these lyrics before, but damn I love 'em.

There are places I'll remember,
all my life though some have changed.
Some forever not for better,
some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments,
with lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living,
in my life I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers,
there is no one compares with you,
and these memories lose their meaning,
when I think of love as something new.
Though I know I'll never lose affection,
for people and things that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
in my life I love you more.

Though I know I'll never lose affection,
for people and things that went before.
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
in my life I love you more.

In my life I love you more.

Veronica, Elvis Costello

Is it all in that pretty little head of yours?
What goes on in that place in the dark?
Well I used to know a girl and I would have
sworn that her name was Veronica
Well she used to have a carefree mind of her
own and a delicate look in her eye
These days I'm afraid she's not even sure if her
name is Veronica
Chorus:
Do you suppose, that waiting hands on eyes,
Veronica has gone to hide?
And all the time she laughs at those who shout
her name and steal her clothes
Veronica
Veronica
Did the days drag by? Did the favours wane?
Did he roam down the town all the time?
Will you wake from your dream, with a wolf at
the door, reaching out for Veronica
Well it was all of sixty-five years ago
When the world was the street where she lived
And a young man sailed on a ship in the sea
With a picture of Veronica
On the "Empress of India"
And as she closed her eyes upon the world and
picked upon the bones of last week's news
She spoke his name outloud again
Chorus
Veronica sits in her favourite chair and she sits
very quiet and still
And they call her a name that they never get
right and if they don't then nobody else will
But she used to have a carefree mind of her
own, with devilish look in her eye
Saying "You can call me anything you like, but
my name is Veronica"
Chorus

A King Crimson classic:

Three of a Perfect Pair

she is susceptible
he is impossible
they have their cross to share
three of a perfect pair...
he has his contradicting views
she has her cyclothymic moods
they make a study in despair
three of a perfect pair...

one, one too many
schizophrenic tendencies
keeps it complicated
keeps it aggravated
and full of this hopelessness
what a perfect mess...

A couple more songs by Procol Harum that I enjoy:

Quite Rightly So

For you (whose eyes were opened wide whilst mine refused to see)
I'm sore in need of saving grace. Be kind and humour me
I'm lost amidst a sea of wheat
where people speak but seldom meet
And grief and laughter, strange but true
Although they die, they seldom cry

An ode by any other name I know might read more sweet
Perhaps the sun will never shine upon my field of wheat
But still in closing, let me say
for those too sick, too sick to see
though nothing shows, yes, someone knows
I wish that one was me

Magdalene (My Regal Zonophone)

Though I know the night has fallen and the sun's sailed out to sea
I will wait here for the band to play the trumpet voluntary
And with one foot on the seashore and the other in the sand
I will stand here plaiting daisies whilst you play the piano-grand

Caprice, your bugle blew away the cobwebs from my ears
and for once I stood quite naked. Unashamed, I wept the tears
which I tried to hide inside myself from me, I mean from you
but the shame I found too painful and the pain it only grew

I love this song by Kate Bush. It's so pretty.

This Woman's Work

Pray God you can cope
I stand outside this woman's work,
This woman's world.
Ooh, it's hard on the man
Now his part is over
Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left

I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things I should've said
That I never said,
All the things we should've done
That we never did,
All the things I should've given
But I didn't
Oh, darling, make it go,
Make it go away.

Give me these moments back
Give them back to me
Give me that little kiss
Give me your hand.

I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left

I should be crying but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things we should've said
That were never said.
All the things we should've done
That we never did

All the things that you needed from me
All the things that you wanted for me
All the things I should've given
But I didn't
Oh, darling, make it go away
Just make it go away now.
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

Clutch
"The Mob Goes Wild"

Please allow me to adjust my pants
So that I may dance the good time dance
And put the onlookers and innocent bystanders into a trance

Give disease so the swine will marry and propagate lies.
Tough luck for elected officials.
The beast you see got fifty eyes.
Bring it on home, spread the wealth.
Play it cool, the hand's been dealt.
Now, all the odds are in our favor.
Save the victory speeches for later.

Streets on fire, the mob goes wild.

21 guns, box made of pine,
letter from the government sealed and signed
Delivered Federal Express on your mother's doorstep.

Condoleeza Rice is nice, but I prefer A-Roni.
And that man on the T.V. who speaks to the dead,
you know that man's a phony.
Everybody move to Canada and smoke lots of pot.
Everybody move to Canada right now. Here's how we do it:
Bum rush the border guard before he and his dog ever knew it.

Streets on fire, the mob goes wild.

21 guns, box made of pine,
letter from the government sealed and signed
