*WE ARE MOVING* *IMPORTANT*

Post by Vain »

Hi,

We are moving hosts from the current host to a new one (with huge assistance from Romeo - without whom this would be a whole lot more difficult to do)

For the most part, the move should be seamless. It will take place over the coming week and I am doing it in stages. You may notice that things are a little slower for a day or two but then it should hopefully all speed up.

You may also notice that you won't have access to the site - and it may well be for a few hours - hopefully you won't have any but I'm working on worst case scenario here.

You may also notice that you are suddenly looged out and need to log-in again - this is worst case.

So everybody out there, hold thumbs over the next week :)

Cheers

Vain

Is this something to do with our new "official" status? In any case, I trust you to make the change as smooth as possible :) Again ;)

While there's a web admin announcement thread, everyone should be aware that the menu system on the official site is being modified. The initial system was a bit flawed - the menus "dropped down" in Internet Explorer, but for Netscape (and other) users there were an "alternate" set of menus. The new system uses javascript that is supposed to be more widely (hopefully "universally") compatible:

================

Microsoft Internet Explorer for Windows 4.0 to 6.0+
Netscape Navigator for Windows 4.03 to 4.8
Netscape Navigator for Windows 6.0 to 7.0+
Mozilla for Windows 0.6 to 1.6+
Opera for Windows 5.0 to 7.0+

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0+ for Apple Mac
Safari 1.0+ for Apple Mac
Netscape Navigator 4.x+ for Apple Mac
Netscape Navigator 6.0+ for Apple Mac
Mozilla 0.7+ for Apple Mac

Netscape Navigator 4+ on Unix/Linux
Netscape 6+ on Unix/Linux
Konquerer 2.2+ on Unix/Linux
Mozilla 0.7+ for Unix/Linux

Support is currently in development for the menu on WebTV and Pocket PC's

============

If anyone has any problems, use the Webmaster link on the "from the author / links" page. If you can't get there, PM or email me directly. Make sure to include as many details as possible - where the error is occurring, PC or Mac, operating system, browser name and version.
And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

OK. I believe Phase One of the move has run its course. The database transfer should be completed by the weekend.

Hold thumbs :)

Way cool Vain :D I never noticed any problems while I was on. :D

BTW, are you still going to change the color scheme? It's been awhile since anything about that has been mentioned, so I was just wondering. :D

OK. The move is complete :)

And Furls, I was holding off on changing things until the move and the move took longer to execute than I planned because stuff happened :) I will be looking into making the changes as we go :)

Aha, is that why between reading one thread and another I lost contact with the site yesterday, and got unprecedented "post or thread does not exist" type messages.

Hopefully that's fixed now. Please try uploading it again and let me know if it's working.

wow...all this managed to happen while I was gone, too *smile* way to go! Oh, by the by, I'm on AOL and everything seems to be running smoothly (which is an uncommon thing with AOL), so, two thumbs up!

Not the digits I'd put up in connection with AOL, but to each their own.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

LOL, you're right...I must beg forgiveness...those two things should never even be put in the same sentence together *grin*

I know! I'm sorry...I've been doing a lot of running around lately....going between towns, trying to get ready for college, moving out of my place back into my parents *sigh* it's been nuts...but I should be around more now! *smile*
