How old are your TC books?
Mine must've been made when the books first came out; they have that goofy 70s fantasy art on the front cover!
I'd buy new ones, but these have a lot of sentimental significance, as the guy who introduced me to TCTC, my high school chemistry teacher, bought 'em for me at some flea market. Like a dollar a piece. I kind of like old, used books better than new ones; they've got that "old book smell" (which can be good or bad for some people), and, plus, they're already broken in.

Mine are only about 3 years old but LFB is pretty beat up. I've taken it with me everywhere. I took it babysitting with me once to read after the kids had gone to bed. They found it and stuck a fuzzy horse sticker over one of the Ranyhyn and a pink breast cancer ribbon sticker on the spine

At one time I had all first release hard covers but they got ruined in some flooding.
Now I have some paperbacks that I ordered from Amazon about 2 years ago that were falling apart when they were new.
I complained to Amazon but it didn't do me much good.
Anyway on my 2nd read through of those now (gotta brush up!) and hopefully can replace the hard covers someday.

Just over a year. My old three-in-one-volume of the first chronicals fell to bits, and since I was re-buying the first, I bought the second as well.

Shoot! The original paperbacks of LFB and TPTP are long-gone,
but my original hardcovers were bought in the mid-eighties.
They are still in very good shape because I don't mess with them much.
The paperbacks that I now have are only about 6-7 years old. (3rd set)
Had paperbacks since TPTP first came out in the 70's.
(Am I OLD or what?
Don't answer that!)

My oldest TC book is The One Tree, which is in hardcover and is second printing. The dust cover is in good shape, and the binding is still good. I love that book.

I have the hard cover of LFB-1977, hard cover of TIW-also 1977, TPTP-1st Edition 1978,TWL 1st Edition-1980,TOT-1st Edition 1982,WGW-1st Edition-1983. I read them when they first came out, loved them, and kept and cherished them, having recently re read them all yet again. How many times??? lost count. They are just part of my life, on-going, always finding some thing more that I failed to perceive before or only presently needed.

The oldest example I have is a paperback of the Wounded Land my mom bought for me off the shelf when if first came out. Its still in pretty good condition. I've since bought hard backs of everything. The next oldest is the clothbound box set of the 1st chrons that my ex wife bought me back in 1984. They've remained in pretty good condition but the box has a few stains on it. I will certainly take perfect care of Runes once I get my hands on it.

I've got the first edition hardcovers of the 2nd Chronicles that I ordered from an antiquarian bookseller, which I just leave on the bookshelf. Never read 'em. If SRD comes by Boston, I'll be toting those along with me, hopeful for a signature.
The ones I do read are the trade paperbacks from '97. The 1st Chronicles have a Ranyhyn on the cover, and the 2nd Chronicles have a white gold ring. And they're actually white, not yellow gold like the newest editions.

I have all 6 in first edition hardcovers, they range in age from LFB '77 to WGW '84. These stay in the library behind a glass door and are in mint condition. The ones I actually read are also old. They are the PB's with the Darrell Sweet art on the covers. TIW is in pieces
I have a rubber band around it to keep it together when I'm not reading it.
I also have 3 copies of the The Wounded Land. Danlo graciously offered me one to have signed by SRD at Elohimfest, right across the chapter header for Coercri. It now holds a place of honor in the library.
