"Hail" seems to be the most catching in everyone's conversation. We say "hellfire" a lot, altho my husband already used that a lot and never read the books. ha.
Do any of you think about TC's VSE sometimes when you are checking yourself in the mirror or when you get out of the car, or going in to an appt, stuff like that? yea, I do a quick VSE off and on through the day for one reason or another, and always think of Covenant.

Good one, Cate. I do indeed find myself thinking about Covenant's VSE when I'm checking my surroundings. Or if I get a cut on my finger, I'll have morbid thoughts like: whew, I'm glad I don't have leprosy or I'd be up the creek. It must be very difficult for any of us to truly appreciate Covenant's condition without having experienced it ourselves. After all, how many of us know anyone suffering from leprosy?

I often say "Think on that and be dismayed" to myself, usually followed by an evi laugh out loud.

Me: no, further up and further in!

i think amok said this but im unsure.

My Gallant Spouse and I say "Stone and Sea forfend!" about anything and everything we don't want to see happen.

In response to anything that must be accepted but isn't pleasant (missed buses, early morning scheduled activities, etc.) I tend to say TFH (acronym for Tan-*bleep*ing-Haruchail). The original version is reserved for serious and/or sacred use. We sometimes speak of a character in another mythos or a person in real life having a very difficult Tan-Haruchail in front of them, e.g. when Dr. Franklin on Babylon 5 had to admit he had a stimulant addiction.

Caution, religious content:
Spoiler
I also say Tan-Haruchail in church in response to "The Body (Blood) of Christ keep you in everlasting life", though I try to cover it with "Amen" in a more public voice.
Shared pain is lessened; shared joy is increased.

Well it's not actually speech per se', but I have put together a little Beowulf cluster here at work, I named the machines in the order purchased:

(first purchase)
berek
brinn
bannor

(later added)
cerrin
ceer
cail

(then)
doar

(and just lately)
howor
hergrom

BTW howor and hergrom are 4 CPU AMD64's at 2.6 GHz and they kick kresh!

I get much grief from my colleagues as they stumble over pronouncing uncommon names. BTW I pronounce cerrin and ceer as "sarrin" and "seer", but cail as "Kale" (like the plant). I still don't know if doar should be "Dew-er" or "Duh-or" (just a longish normal english 'door'). And is howor "HOW-or" or "hoo-OR" or "whore"?

And the name for the whole cluster as a group? Well it's officially the Advanced Utility for Programming Technology or AuPt, ie. Gold-Platinum => Whitegold. So I got everybody to call it "Whitegold". It's great to hear people asking me things like "How much memory does Whitegold have?" or "Does Whitegold have enough power to run my jobs?" To which I reply, "Hell it'll bring down the arch of time, I think it can handle your little 10,000 node FEM model"

This isn't a phrase but yesterday I was watering my garden and pulled a few of my concord grapes off to eat. When I ate them, I spit the seeds in my hand and scattered them around on the ground. I immediately thought of aliantha. They were delicious. I only had a few this year but next year I hope to have a bumper crop.

I don't often use quotes in everyday life. But sometimes when people really exasperate me, I'll retort with a snappy "I will rend your very soul from your bones! You will grovel before me and call it joy."

I realized recently how many phrases pop into my head, although I don't often say them out loud. A few of mine are repeats of ones that have been mentioned already, and I'm doing this from memory, so they may not be verbatim:

- "By the Seven - You fear power more than weakness!" - Mhoram. This one probably comes to mind more than any of the others.

- "Pain is life; only the dead feel no pain." - Covenant. Saying this quietly to myself helped a lot recently when my finger was getting lanced.

- "If you cannot [assist, I think?], at least forbear to ridicule" - Foamfollower to Covenant.

- "Darkness withers the heart." - Tohrm

- "That we do not contest. Does not Corruption believe entirely in its own rightness?" - Brinn

- "This is the grace that has been given you, to bear what must be borne." - Brinn/Ak-Haru

I find myself using a couple sayings at some point in the day. :D
Hellfire.
By the seven.
Darkness withers the heart.
Do you rave?
Stone and Sea!
"May Your Swords Stay Sharp!"

"Darkness withers the heart."

"If you desire to know the truth, you must also have the courge to accept it."
