Can I get some info on the Lords and white gold.

Post by Mor'da Greybeard »

I've been playing on a UO Shard that has been heavily based on the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. I haven't had a chance to read he books fully yet.

The shard sort of takes place after the second chronicles. My character plays a Lord and has recenetly been given the white gold ring. I was wondering if any of you would spend a minute or two to tell me any kind of information that could help me roleplay the Lord and ring.

Didn't Linden take the ring back with her? So the ring is back in the "real world," not in The Land.

The ring is back in the real world with Linden. I'm not sure even if a Lord got a hold of the ring they'd be able to use it. Covenant clearly was the White Gold, and Linden was "Chosen" to be his successor.

If you have no idea what the ring does or how to use it, you're the perfect person to carry it. ;) A rather large trust for someone in your position... unless everybody gets a white gold ring, and then that would just suck.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Correct. Realistically, I don't think a lord could use the ring. They might be able to but I think the use would be limited.

However, for your roleplaying game, the white gold ring could have power. The ring can do everything and nothing. It is unpredictable. It could destroy your enemy or explode in your face. It controls you and is controlled by you and yet it is uncontrollable. It is a paradox as is the one who weilds it.

Very well put Caamora! The ring is a paradox, both potent and impotent, both powerful and weak. The ring will be you, and you will be the ring.

Thanks for help. I understand now how the ring is "Wild Magic".

There is only one ring, and I'm pretty trusted on the shard. Been with them for quite some time. I've always wanted to read the books..but its pretty fun not knowing things while I play. Right now, we are recovering Kevin's Lore, while Foul is having his minions look for the Illearth stone. I was given the ring, after my character was used in the summoning of Lord Foul. So he has a lot of conflict feeling a bit responsible. Even if he was used against his own will. The ring is the only thing that keeps him from being killed by Foul. Foul sure likes to torture all his friends though :).

Its really pretty interesting. I'm sure you guys would enjoy it. Its not exactly tradiational to the books. It would be really hard to do that. They just base it off of it. This is the shards webpage in case you guys are ever interested in checking it out. www.rpadventure.com/indexb.html

Any chance you guys might be able to tell me more about the Lords and how they would be played? Use their earth magic for healing and defending. Maybe about the Krill of Loric, and the Staff of Law.

I think a lord would be able to use it, maybe. Hile Troy used it, those few seconds he had it before Caerroil Wildwood claimed him...he is of our world, but he's not TC or LA...so maybe a lord could use it...

Mhoram would be the strongest Lord, IMHO. He would have great charisma and since he was seer and oracle, he would be able to tell the future. All of the Lords would have a different skill (lore or magic, if you will) that they excelled at. They could use the Krill.
