Yeah, this stuff's ok. I guess. Ya know, it keeps your interest.

I'm not sure what a SAND-GORGON is, though. Something to do with beaches?

Let me just say that you couldn't possibly guess what the 2nd Chrons are like, so don't bother trying. But it's glorious beyond glorious.

And don't forget, you can add to any chapter in Dissecting that you want, any time you want. Heck, it's currently in the middle of WGW, yet LFB's chapters 7 & 8 are seeing a lot of action!

So what was your favorite part?

As far as the second chrons, nothing will prepare you for the Wounded Land. It's simply brilliant in scope and depth.

I got ONE word for you as far as the Sand Gorgons go..... Heh Heh....

yep, not a chance in hell you'd guess that the second chrons is what it is, unless of course you said "the second chrons".

When you start The Wounded Land, I would recommend you have a box of kleenex on hand. It made me cry.

It's great to hear you loved the first Chronicles, Isildur! No need to rush into the second...savor what you've read already and let it all sink in...

Or to heck with it, start the 2nd Chrons right now!

You can look forward to something that is an altogether different emotional experience from the 1st Chrons. Like what StarRider said, there's really nothing to prepare a reader of the first Chrons for what happens in the second. I think SRD takes his imagination and writing to an even higher level in the Second Chrons, but that's just me (not that the original Chrons are mere ur-vile fodder, let me hasten to say).

Yes, be prepared for shock and horror when you first read The Wounded Land. The Second Chrons are a damn good series, but SRD really knows how to rip out his readers' hearts and slam them against the wall a few times before putting them back.

I don't know if I can ever read the 2nd Chronicles again.

I suppose I'll have to when SRD finishes book 1 of the 3rd. But I know I won't like it. I pretty much thought it was terrible by comparison to the original, but there were moments.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but since you mentioned favourite parts I'd like to tell mine.
The beginning of Lord Foul's Bane, when covenant's leprosy was healed by the hurtloam. I could imagine how covenant felt to have his sense of touch back after years of being so sure he'd never have it. No other part in the book made me feel so good except perhaps

2nd Chrons spoiler there, just so Isildur is clear on that.

I think The Illearth War is my favourite too. And everything that has been said by people other than Zeph is quite correct. You can't imagine what's coming.

And yes, you will learn a bit more about Sandgorgons. There is only one word to summarise them, and all we veterans know what it is... heh heh... 8)

Its certainly different. I think that is a large part of its strength, it doesnt feel like it is trying to rehash the first series - which is interesting considering the fact that the basic materials are similar. Donaldson does a musicians trick with the Second Series - takes the same basic themes from the First, and inverts them, tranposes them to different keys, alters the underlying rhythmic structure... it gives the two series a unifed feeling, but neither seems like a copy of the other. Im going to be very curious what he will do with the Third Movement.... I mean series, in this regard... :)

I assume it's because sandgorgons are a favorite here at the watch. He's probably read hundreds of posts about them by this time, hehe.

Oh I know they are mentioned in the First Chronicles - doesnt mean they are actually in the Second! :)

However, I will buy the theory that you figured it out based on the posting of many of our illustrious members at this site - enthusiam for Sandgorgons runs high, with good reason!

I've always thought of it as Mr. Donaldson in a Lord Foul mode giving US something back that was broken. As I said earlier, I cried.

Well, if you had bothered to read all of this thread then obviously you would see that I DIDN'T know that the sandgorgons would be in the 2nd chronicles!!! THAT IS WHY I ASKED EARLIER IN THE THREAD!!!! AND THATS HOW I NOW KNOW THAT THEY ARE INFACT IN THE SECOND CHRONICLES!!! KAPISH!!!!!! :x

I'll let you figure out what walthead means by yourself, seeing as you're so good at jumping to the 'RIGHT' conclusions

Well, now that that unpleasantness has been dealt with... Any other heads up from anyone on what comes next??? Although don't give too much away cause we wouldn't want to ruin it.
