Bingo. I was following the recipe line of thought in the topic, concerning the Staff.

Ah, I was unnecessarily complicating it. I see it now.

 A sexist view of the kitchen? Put it to SRD in the GI, Krilly! :)

It sounded like someone asked the exact mechanics of the merging of Vain and Findail. With Findail being an Elohim, anything is possible because they are earthpower incarnate. Linden made the merge happen with white gold.

This was probably already said. I just wanted to post something! ;)
The King has one more move.

Post by alanm »

something really puzzles me.
Covenant defeats Lord Foul, Linden creates a new staff of Law and then heals the Land. how can we now have a new continuation of the series :?:

don't get me wrong I will enjoy reading it but :!: :!: :!:

Three points:

1) White Gold Wielder was, to the best of my recollection, Foul's third defeat (the Ritual of Desecration (a defeat in the sense that he was seriously damaged for a long time) and The Power That Preserves were the other two) so it's not that surprising that he can bounce back again

2) SRD himself has said that the Staff's existence doesn't mean the Laws of Life and Death have been repaired. That leaves a lot of scope.

3) Never underestimate Lord Foul's malevolent inventiveness.

after the 1st chronicles Foul came back becasue there was no staff of law. at the end of the 2nd chronicles he is surely more utterly defeated by in effect wild magic and then a much more vibrant powerful staff of law is created. Yes the law of living and dead is broken but did lord foul die? where could he hide out this time before he recovered?

:D

SRD has made it pretty clear that III Chrons wont be about the same thing as either first or second. His new attack, which he has said is a direct attack on the arch of time, will have nothing to do with the staff of law or Earthpower.

It must have been something else Covenant messed up. Its my guess that all of those times Covenant used Wild Magic with the venom inside opened the door for Foul to attack the arch directly, just as the destruction of law opened the door for Foul to attack Earthpower at the source.

I havn't read Runes, so it's just a guess, dont worry.

So true! For all we know, something that happened the very first moment TC was summoned to the Land was planned by Foul to eventually lead to the happening of the Third Chronicles. 8O

He's tricky and thinks very far ahead... wouldn't want to play him in chess. ;)

I'm not worried - I've nearly finished Runes ;) But don't you worry either, nothing I've said is necessarily right. I write my posts as though I haven't started Runes yet.

arch of time

Post by alanm »

the dreaming
you said it would be a direct attack on the arch of time.
Covenant stands in the way of the arch as wild magic. therefore there is no way that foul can break the arch. Unless ofcourse SRD has forgotten what has gone before.
