True SRD story.
My first post, I thought I would tell about my first contact with SRD. I finished the Chronicles in late 1979, and was hungry for more Covenant writings. I had 2 clues as to how to find out if my hunger would be sated. I knew the author's name and I knew what city in which he lived. Being the precocious 14 year old with no concept of how rude this would be, I dialed up New Mexico information, asked for the phone listing of SRD, and behold, it was there. I then dialed the number and SRD answered.
I told him I was reviewing his books for my school newspaper and wondered if he had a few moments to answer some questions about his books. He was very kind and answered some philosophical/plot questions I had about the Chronicles. He told me there would be a new Covenant book in the summer and it would be called, The Wounded Land. I thanked him and we hung up.
I guess in the days before common stalkers, this may have happened regularly, but he showed a TREMENDOUS amount of class in taking the time to talk to me and for that reason, I have bought every book he has ever written, whether I planned to read it or not.

Hail and well met Loric!! Be welcome and true here at the Watch!!
What a cool thing. I, too was 14 when I first read the Chrons, and remember waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for both The One Tree and White Gold Weilder to come out. And this wait for Runes is about to do me in!!! AAAAAARRRRGH!!!

KK taught me a valuable lesson. Do not read begin her trilogies until all 3 books are out. Unfortunately I am a slow learner and paid dearly waiting on the Bastard Prince to arrive. Right now Im looking at In the Kings Service which will remain shelved until the third installment is released.. fool me once, shame on you.. fool me twice shame on me... there will be no third.birdandbear wrote:Woo Hoo! Echo that last sentiment. SRD definitely manifesting some Mhoram like qualities through his gradual interview too. Nice story Loricskrill
I hope he does some signings or something for the book releases over here.. but i wouldnt be as brave as u were [or Danlo for that matter, 3am lol] .. make no mistake though, courage and opportunity are the saving grace for most of the would be stalkers here

Oh, don't be silly! He'd have sent you a letter with the name of a Sandgorgon, that's all.danlo wrote:I don't want SRD to know that I was the one that called him at 3am (his time) in late '79 and told him how much I admired his work.
