My very big dliemma......

Post by hamako »

Greetings from the mists of time Land dwellers!

Been a tad busy over the last few months, having more children etc, which sort of occupies you a bit....

Anyway, here's my problem:

Runes is out in 10 days. I'm halfway through reading The Illearth War (OK for the eleventeenth time, but we all know that's not the point!) & my intention was to re read all 6 books before starting the Last Chrons.

Finishing the re read will probably take me past xmas -

what would you do? 8O

Read runes as soon as it comes out.

I was going to do the whole re-read thing but didn't get round to it. If you read Runes as soon as - then you'll straight away be able to join in the chat about it, and lets face it there's plently of time between the 1st and 2nd Last Chronicles to read them all again (which is what I'll be doing)
There is also Love in the World.

If you're like me, everything relevant from the past will come back to you as you read Runes anyway :)

That's no dilemma at all.

Luckily, I started my Chrons. re-read around early September or so, so I'm almost finished with Wounded Land, getting to One Tree. Should be done with the Second Chrons by the time Runes comes out, but if I don't, I'll be able to wait until I finish this re-read. Most TC fans don't have the patience to wait any longer for Runes than they have to, and, to tell the truth, it wears me thin a bit, too!

Read Runes. I am certain any important bits will come back to you as needed, or, if not, you can ask here. :)

cheers Duchess , what I really want to see is the return of Juan Valdez. If I can reappear, I'm sure he can! His posts almost give the same amout of anticipation as the Last Chrons!

Okay, one voice for the other side.

Wait. Read it in due time.

1) Anticipation is delightful; don't squander it.

2) It'll shorten your wait for the next book.

3) Any urgency you feel is not real; it's nothing more than peer pressure.

How many opportunities do you get to read a new Covenant book? The satisfaction you get from waiting for the perfect time to read it, and not rushing through it, will last forever; reading it immediately because of a need to be instantly gratified lasts about one day.

ah you see! Here lies the root of it all! This is exactly how I feel, but can't wait. I'm doing the same with a new guitar - got the money, know what I want, dealer has it in stock but I'm draggin it out, savouring the anticipation.

Ah b*ll*cks I'll read it as soon as it arrives!

I waited 20 years for another book - do you think that I would've waited another day longer than I had to? H-E double-hockey sticks no!

Read Runes as soon as possible - no other answer suffices.

I wouldn't worry about not remembering what happens in the first and second chronicles. From what I've read of Runes so far, Donaldson goes into almost excruciating detail sometimes reminding you about anything important...

it's not so much about remembering stuff, it's more to do with getting the overall vibe right, maybe a completist thing...

Face it, it's out in a week, I've pre-ordered it so it'll arrive sooner. Like I'd be able to wait???

I was able to read the whole series over the spring so I am absolutely ready for Runes! Instead of "reading" Runes though, I will be "listening" to them.

But as to your dilemma - I feel your pain. If you're like me, when I first purchased WGW when it finally came out in paperback I read the whole thing in about 2 sittings (I had to study and take finals and other minor things at the time!) So I would probably just postpone the 1st and 2nd Chrons, devour Runes and then continue where you stopped reading the others.

But you may actually have a life...
But hear then, for good or ill. I fulfill the law of my creation. My maker can require no more of me.

i agree with urlord .. but i know what you mean hamako by getting the vibe right!

but believe me .. you will!! dont forget you're a saged SRD fan .. and more particularly a saged TC fan .. the chrons are in you .. as soon as you pick up runes .. you'll be back home again!!

the vibe will be there!! and you'll get it! If you were someone who had never read TCTC then you may fail to get the right vibe .. but thats just not the case here!

I have not read any of the RUNES spoiler threads .. ;) much ;) LOL .. in anticipation of absorbing myself in the book!! In its entirety!

horses for courses .. but in the end .. *shrugs* .. it all means 5/10 of 9/8ths of buggar all .. LOL

do what you feel .. and feel what you do!! LOL

ahhh hahaha .. i am waxing lyrical today!! LOL :P

good to see you back Hamako!!

Hey Sky, how's it hanging? I see the passage of time is making you mellow, no bad thing. WE have only a couple of days left and I will be powering thru it crazily loving it all.

My vibe is always right
