I saw your warning of some mild spoilers so i stopped reading. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate it?

Rate the book? I'd give it an 8/10. It's not my favorite of the Covenant books, but it's obviously a platform piece from which Donaldson is launching a very big story arc. That said, the 90-page prologue of the book is a great exercise in suspense, and the quest that Linden Avery ultimately undertakes in the second half of the book is rivitting stuff.

BTW, as my blog states, my review does contain "soft spoilers." Anyone who wants to know nothing about the story before reading RUNES should stay away from the review. However, my soft spoilers are no greater than what you see in some of the more intense publicity for this book or in the editorial reviews posted on Amazon (that is, from "Publisher's Weekly" and "Booklist").

Just got back from the UW Bookstore event in Seattle with Donaldson. It was great. About 40-50 people there. Donaldson did a fine reading and gave some very extensive and interesting answers in the Q&A time. If you’re in Seattle and didn’t make it to this one, come out to the Lake Forest Park event Monday--not to be missed!
