I read the book about tracing Captain Cook's journeys last year. It was a hoot, and it was sad in a way, considering what was lost.

As for the beer, you have to be ready for any possibility.

I like Cancun myself. 8) Talking about, next year, going to one of the less frequently visited places, like maybe Ixtapa.

Never been to San Francisco. I would like someday to go out that way and check out the town. But there's so much of the world to see, and so little disposable income. :-)

Living in Southern California - the Entertainment Capital of the World - any kind of climate I want is within 1 hours' drive. We are very fortunate here and appreciate every minute! Beaches, deserts, mountains - amusement parks, movie studios, museums, libraries, theaters - we are spoiled. We even have Las Vegas which is about 3 hours drive from where I live. We go there 3- 4 times per year. So when I need to get away, the hardest part is choosing where to go.

(Duchess - you said you vacation in the western states. You should let me know next time you're in So. Calif. :D 8) )

Actually, my husband hails from Covina, and he has tons of family out there, so we do get out there every so often. Usually every second of our time is spent visiting relatives, though. I have to get down on my knees and beg just for part of a day to visit Disney or the San Diego Zoo. :|

The last time we went out West we went camping and hiking in several National Parks:
Bryce Canyon
Cedar Breaks
Zion Canyon
Arches
Canyonlands
Colorado National Monument
Rocky Mountain

we also camped for a couple of days in Glenwood Canyon right on the banks of the Colorado River, and let the kids swim in one the largest hot springs fed swimming pools in the world in Glenwood Springs.
We also spent a bit of time in Denver and Omaha. :) That was a great trip!! :)

This summer we'll be going to a high school graduation party for my husband's nephew in Minnesota and then will go out to the Black Hills to go hiking and camping. We plan on hitting:
Badlands National Park
Wind Cave National Park
Jewel Cave National Monument
Mt. Rushmore
Custer State Park to visit the wild bison and burros
The Wild Horse Sanctuary in Hot Springs
the hot springs swimming pool in Hot Springs
Hopefully we'll have a great time on this trip, too!
Love as thou wilt.

Usually for a big trip like that 2-3 weeks. So when I'm gone for half of June, you know I'll be out in the mountains again. :)
But we can only do that every couple of years...usually our "vacations" are a long weekend a couple of times a year. :?

Lehman Caves is a good place to hit if you're going to Bryce and Zion, but might be a little too far NW if you're not coming from Reno.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

We thought about visiting them, but they were a bit out of the way, as we were driving in from Michigan. 8)

Today starts my vacation! Down to sunny (hopefully) Florida.

I've started out the day by screwing up printing my boarding pass from home. Should make for a fun time at the airport. :) I may be able to check in over the weekend, but if not I want to just say to everyone to be well, and I'll talk to you next Thursday.
