Crackpot Theory for Runes (lots of spoilers)

Post by Raist »

This is my first post to Kevinswatch.com, for the record.

I have just finished "runes..." and had the thought that SRD may be playing with time a little more than is obvious. It occured to me that some of the characters may be reprises and perversions of previous characters.

The first thing to suggest this to me was Anele; more to the point Anele's name (read backwards). He was brought back from the dead in Andelain... might he have some connection to the shade of Elena? Could this also provide a clue to the fiery entity that surfaces occasionally? Could that be Kevin? An echo of Desecration?

Just throwing ideas around, y'know :o)

I further explored this idea with other characters. The Mahdoubt... could this be Mhoram in some form?

We have already seen the bane of the illearth stone brought forward, could Kevin's Dirt be some kind of echo of the Sunbane, or Kevin's original desecration?

Maybe all the important events, characters, powers and banes are being brought to a single place and time in the land. We have seen Covenant, Linden,Lord Foul, Ravers, Haruchai, Ranyhyn, Urviles, Waynhim, The Illearth Stone, The Staff of Law, White Gold, Revelstone, merewives, Elohim and Demondim all being brought together. Soon the entire compass of the history of the land will be represented in one place at one time. How far behind are the giants?

Eh, just throwing a crackpot theory out there. Time (or rather the next book) may tell.

By the way, I'd like to point out that this is exactly what the falls do... powered, of course by White Gold (the keystone of the arch of time)

I've thought about this too - and welcome to the Watch, by the way!

I posted in another thread that the KD could be mutated Sunbane, and your thoughts on the time shifts may be right-on.

Thanks for the welcome. :) I was thinking not so mucn of a mutated sunbane (though that is another good thought), but more of an echo across time. Maybe Kevin's Dirt is what the Sunbane was like in its early stages. Maybe it is something like the way the power of the Illearth stone was brought across from before TC destroyed it.

On another note, what are the long term effects of "rending" a raver?

Great concept!!! And I too wondered why Anele would be Elena spelled backwards... :shifty:
"Fortunate circumstances do not equate to high ideals."

"Mostly muffins sir."- My answer in response to the question posed by the officer, "Son, do you have anything on you I should know about?"

His response: "Holy $&!^. He's not kidding! Look at all these muffins!"

Foul, who I doubt lies, more or less said the Elohim created the Dirt, and that he needed Linden free of it to do his work. I suspect it was put there by Chant and co precisely to stop Linden from doing the kind of damage she did anyway.

I doubt everything Foul ever says. We can't assume he's ever telling the truth.

Can you name an example of a factual lie he's told? Maybe he has - I'm so unfamiliar with these books having not read them in many years, but it seems to me that he always had too much contempt and pride to lie.

One thought of Kevin's dust = the Sunbane; the Sunbane didn't blind Linden. :shifty: If Kevin's dust were to be some predecessor to the Sunbane, wouldn't that specific trait stay the way it was?
