I've been making some calls today, and I've got some details on the Manchester signing.
The event starts at 7:00, although Waterstones advise getting there a little earlier, and will be a signing, reading and Q&A.
It's a ticketed event so book early to avoid disappointment: tel 0161 837 3000. You can book over the phone and then collect the tickets from the front desk on the day (as I have just done).
They're selling about 150 tickets for £3 a head..not many have gone yet but it's early days.
Guess we should talk about where and when to meet up...ideas?

I take it that's 7pm?
I was expecting a daytime thing, but I guess not. I'll probably get the train mid-morning and spend the day there. I hope there's a late train back.
Does anyone know a good meeting place near Manchester Piccadilly?

Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

Manchester signing
Hi, I am new to this website but NOT to The Chronicles which I first read in the late 70's. I have got my ticket for the Manchester signing today and see in this discussion that you are planning a tentative get together. Can anyone come along? It would be good to be able to talk Donaldson with people who appreciate his books as much as I do. Hope to hear from you. Ally

Manchester
I rang up for my ticket yesterday and they are posting it to me. Perhaps you could ring them back and ask them to do the same. I explained that I didn't live anywhere near Manchester and would prefer to have the ticket before I set off to go there.
I usually don't go any further than Stockport. I do remember buying cup of tea at Piccadilly and having to walk for about half a mile just to find a bin to put the tea bag in.CovenantJr wrote:I've been to Manchester Picadilly a few times, but I couldn't really offer much advice for a meeting place. Manchester doesn't seem to have landmarks.
I've got the whole day to play with, so I'll probably get there earlyish too.
What's everyone doing about trains? I've got a standard return ticket that (so I'm lead to believe) means I can travel on any of the relevant trains. I though this was a good idea, seeing as I don't know how long the reading will last. The last train back to Sheffield (and maybe Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham too) sets of at 22.28.

Right, we've just over a week before this all takes place so I think it's about time we sorted out at least an informal meeting place.
I'm catching my train at 11.11 (on 11/11, heh(not that I'm 'heh'-ing Rememberance Day)) and it gets in to Piccadilly at 12.04. I plan on going straight to Waterstones to pick up my ticket, and google tells me that there is a Starbucks practically next door. I'll probably go there and read Runes for a while, I haven't decided what I'll be wearing yet but I'll try and stay nice and visible.

I'm still hammering out details but broadly, I'll be getting up to Manchester sometime around lunch. First priority will be to collect my ticket; after that I've tentatively arranged to meet a mate for a pint. I'll stick my head into Starbucks when I pick up the ticket and see if I can spot anyone, or vice-versa.
