Manuel Barrueco's version of Asturias from Albeniz's Suite española No.1, originally for piano. You can listen to the beginning of it here if you want, the 4th sample:

You might remember it from a Lexus commercial years ago.

That absolutely beautiful (and as far as I know, nameless) little guitar solo in The Wall between Hey You and Vera is possibly my favorite piece of music ever.......
(Does it still count as a solo if there are a few strings in the background? The violin right at the end makes it soo heartbreaking.

You may not have heard Clapton's solo. Word has it Harrison re-cut the solo and that's the one that was pressed.Lord Foul wrote: Clapton's solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
My favorite solo would have to be Alex Lifeson on "Jacobs Ladder", off of Rush's Permanent Waves album.

I'll bet nobody expected to see the Carpenters mentioned in this thread, eh?
But the end of Goodbye to Love is pretty slammin'! They actually got some hate mail from people who were fans up until then, complaining about how they'd ruined themselves by doing such heavy-metal trash.

I'm pretty sure it's a Clapton solo. Some changes were made to it, of course. But whoever did it or whatever was done to it, it's a great, great solo.GEORGE 1987: "So Eric came in, and the other guys were as good as gold-- because he was there. Also, it left me free to just play the rhythm and do the vocal. So Eric played that, and I thought it was really good. Then we listened to it back, and he said, 'Ah, there's a problem though; it's not Beatley enough.' So we put it through the ADT (automatic double-track) to wobble it up a bit."

HOLY CRAP! I totally forgot about that. Consider this an addition to my Gilmour is God post. BTW the song is "is there anybody out there" and there isn't much to it outside that little piece of music.birdandbear wrote:That absolutely beautiful (and as far as I know, nameless) little guitar solo in The Wall between Hey You and Vera is possibly my favorite piece of music ever.......

Ahhh, guitar solos. The classics have all been mentioned. Here are a few of my fave's:
Under A Glass Moon and The Spirit Carries On - John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
In The Court Of The Crimson King - Robert Fripp (King Crimson)
For me, basically anything by John Petrucci. I'm a huge fan of Dream Theater, the Rush fans I saw probably know who I'm talking about.

Nothing can beat Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton. Greatest Guitarist ever!
But the other great is Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. Does not matter which song because they were all great, No Quarter, Black Dog and Dazed & Confused are the best.
Other greats are Nirvana - Come As You Are and In Bloom, some guitar in that impressed me.
Metallica - Enter Sandman, unforgiven 1 and 2, Wolf and Man, Nothing Else Matters and Wherever i May Roam were great.
Guns n Roses - Sweet Child o' mine.
Rolling Stones - All their songs had great guitar in it.
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water.
Pink Floyed, Thin Lizzy, Oasis (i think) had great guitar.
and who can forget U2, who still have the best guitarist (alive) at the moment, The Edge.

Actually, if you're talking about technical skill, then Jeff Beck has both of them beat. But yeah, Hendrix and Clapton--both instrumental virtuosos.Queeaqueg wrote:Nothing can beat Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton. Greatest Guitarist ever!
And, currently, my favorite guitar player is Robert Fripp, with the Floyd's Gilmour a close second.
