It seems funny that some of you are actually trying to pronounce my name differently than you would any other plain old dandelion. Just pronounce it dandelion.

However, I would like to know how to pronounce names like dlbpharmd, and maybe even the origins of some of these names, so I thought it would be nice to start a thread for that purpose.

As for the origins of my name, it was not a case of capslock being accidentally left on, as some of you thought it was. Originally I was just Dan on another list, but people were getting me confused with the other 3 Dans, so I inverted my caps, and I was the easily recognizeable dAN. When I joined this list, I had an avatar option, and I liked the lion photo I had found online, so dANdeLION was born, though I certainly tried other name/avatar combinations first. So, though I have my personal reasons for the caps, they don't affect the pronunciation of the word.

Myste, from the Mordant's Need books. I've always heard it in my head as "Mist"--never "Misty", which is the name of a pony, not a princess.

Looks like I have no business being in this thread, which is why I'm posting anyway.
I don't really mind how people pronounce my name. I've heard enough different versions to not bother correcting people any more. Examples include: Twat, dumbass, retard, the defence, etc.

Khaliban: An intentional misspelling of the character "Caliban" from Shakespeare's "The Tempest". The normal spelling is taken very quickly at most sites while this spelling is not. It allows me to maintain consistency across multiple forums. (If you play Starfleet Command, you may have heard of me.) As it turns out, my spelling is also a region in the Mid-East currenty home to various terrorist cells. I started using it around '95 but didn't know about the region until early 2001. Geography was never my best subject.

I get this question alot, either through the chat room, threads or PMs.

I have logins all over the Web, from here to eBay to Amazon.com, etc. I try to use the same username/password for each of them, whenever possible (whenever the site doesn't require something else, such as a member ID # or email address.)

So the letters dlb are my initials, and Pharm.D. is my degree (Doctor of Pharmacy.) Nothing special to it at all, I'm afraid. The pronunciation is d-l-b-farm-d.

Sorry it's confusing. Maybe I should change it? I don't know - I could go as simply "Don" but that certainly lacks creativity, doesn't it?

Whenever I type your name for short, I usually make the error of typing it "dlph", which I usually pronounce "delph"--like without the "i" in delphi. Hope that's alright with you!

I've noticed alot of people referring to me as dlph - it doesn't bother me at all.

Oh, dlbpharmd, don't change it! I've only just learned how to spell it! I always hear it in my head as "dilb-PFARM-duh," with the "PF" very German-sounding.

Iryssa is a name my boyfriend made up when I was creating a character for Aion...he has this incredible ability to come up with a name at the drop of a hat (an ability which I lack; if I ever write a book, I'm sure all of the names of the characters in it will be of his making), so of course I asked him. Anyway, I use it everywhere online now...the best part is that it's simple, yet I've never seen it used by anyone else online, so I never need to put numbers after it or anything (though who knows...it could be out there somewhere). Anyway, it's pronounced like Marisa, only with an "I" before the "R" instead of "Ma"...so kinda like Ihrissah.

Caer - like care or kay-ur. "common Welsh place name element meaning “fort” and by extension “locality”. From the books, it was part of the name given to Troy (another place name, interesting) as Caer Caveral and also found in Caerroil Wildwood.

Sylvanus - Sill - vah - nuss or Sill - vay - nuss (I prefer vah). Also spelled "Silvanus", the Roman equivalent of Faunus, which is more or less the god Pan. The god of forests, uncultivated lands, hunting, etc. Also in charge of preserving boundary lines and the banks of rivers. Watches over herdsmen and plays a shepherd's pipe. Simply translated, Sylvanus means "forester."

"Wayfriend" (WĀ·frend) would be the English translation of my RL last name, if my RL last name were an Elvish (Tolkien) word. (Now, of course, you can guess it - just reverse translate!) I'm just not clear on exactly what it means ... someone who loves to travel ... or a helpful stranger ... or someone who keeps the roads safe ... But I sort of like all of those, so I don't sweat it. Ghân-Buri-Ghân was, of course, a quintisential wayfriend by any possible meaning, hence the avatar. And the Giant's of the Search were as well, hence the footer.
