Greetings from Bahrain

Post by [Syl] »

Well, hopefully you guys have noticed I haven't been around for a few days. I left Norfolk on the 4th, had 23 hours of flight time, and now I'm in Bahrain. It's hot and dusty, but not quite as third world as I had expected. I definately feel like a stranger in a strange land, though.

Only got a few minutes of net time left, but I just wanted to stop in and say hi. They're flying me out to Djibouti on Friday (we're 7 hours ahead of eastern standard time here), and from there I'll be taking a helo out to my ship. I guess we're going to hit two ports in Spain and then be headed back to port, so I'll probably be home in a couple of weeks. I guess I'm getting here just in time. ;)

Anyway, I'm having fun so far and hope you guys are, too. Keep up the good fight.

Peace,
ET3 Syl, USN

welcome back syl...did you know that some druids worship Sylvanus, a god of the forest? ....I don't worship you tho.

Join the Navy and see the world, eh Syl. You mentioned you were possibly going out to sea on May 4, but even from Norfolk Djibouti is quite a distance. :) Have a safe trip, we'll keep Vespers hopping for you.

Heh heh. Thanks. You guys are awesome. And when I say we're hitting two ports in Spain, I mean we're just pulling in to get supplies, see the cities, etc.

And yeah, I picked the name Sylvanus because it was one of the names for the god Pan, or a general name for a forest God. It's ok, though, I'm not too interested in being worshipped. A few highly dedicated servants, maybe, but... ;)

Yep, flying to Djibouti tomorrow morning to meet my ship, so might be a while before I get to check back. Have fun, all.

Good luck to you.

(I was about to wish you luck coping with the heat, but now I see that Bahrain is no further south than some part of the United States so I guess you should be okay. :) )

Who knows. I'll tell you one thing, though. This ship isn't built for giants (I'm only 5'10" and I still duck a lot)... and there's no beer, much less diamondraught.

The heat sucks, but luckily I work in an air conditioned space. If only the place I sleep was the same...

That would be hard to sleep, in heat like you're talking about and no air. Hope they at least have good ventilation! 8O For some reason I'm imagining a small metal room with no air flow. 8O
