What about Kevin...he lived for what and thousand years; was the most loved person of the land...the chiks must have been lining up for him.

I've wondered about the lack of a mate for Mhoram myself...I guess if you are in clomplete service to something, and it consumes all of your love, how could you settle down with anyone....you know like people who are married to their jobs...not a good idea, I almost lost my marrage over it a couple of years ago...and yes the ring is white!

Yeah , there's really no question that Mhoram was married to his service to the Land.

I guess I was just being silly. To put it nicely.

Actually, many of the Lords weren't married -- and those that were (with the exception of Callindrill) were married to other Lords. I think that the complete devotion to their jobs was probably a big part of that. Not to mention the thing about ageing at a different rate from "regular" people. It would really suck for both partners if, after a few decades of marriage, one is physically thirty and the other seventy or so... :?

That would, though, make for an interesting relationship. If the writer were up to writing it, that is. Not many are.

There was a very interesting relationship along those very lines in Dan Simmon's Hyperion Cantos. :)

It definately can be done by a gifted writer. :)

I'm not sure many would touch such a theme, though.

That was touched on a bit in the Illearth War...Atiaran and Trell; though she studied at the Loresraat a bit she was never lore-wise and Trell was naturally lore-wise being a rhadhamarel and all. I think Elena talked about it to Covenant that thought Trell's devotion to Atiaran was beyond Question she felt second best, espesially since he was aging at such a slower rate.

Ah, right, I'd forgotten about that.

I also thought about the strangest and most eerie relationship in the book: that between Elena and TC. Elena's love for her father, all of that "beloved" stuff, affected me deeply - and not in a good way.

There was a good age difference there.

Also, Lena and TC. What a poor thing she had become, believing that she hadn't changed, when in fact she was...let's see...63 years old in TPTP.

To have Elena pursuing him in TIW, and then Lena in TPTP, that was really unsettling. And a prelude, of sorts, to the depravity and rape so evident in The Gap series.

Who says Mhoram never married? We don't really know his history after TPTP. I like to think he and Lord Amatin hooked up--- they were getting real chummy by the end of that book!

Well, the most affection Mhoram showed any character (that we saw at least) was Thomas Covenant............

Yes: to be precise, Elena was nine years older than her father. To my mind, the age difference was the one non-creepy feature of that entire relationship.

I too felt very sad when we meet up with Lena again in TPTP, I think one of the nicest things TC did for her was teller her "Berek never married his queen either" although he felt worse saying it, she was beaming. Then the fact that Foamfolloer kept on calling her My Queen; well that's why everyone likes him so much.

....Man what was the original topic here anyways....?
