But her healthsense, remember, needs to be recharged. Perhaps her healthsense, unbeknownst to her because of the enormous tension, has dissipated somewhat. In that case, she wouldn't know. Also, if it were, say, Roger, her health sense wouldn't help at all.

but she will know, once it's recharged... she'd know anyways...
Funky Staff of Law has a point, (heh, love the name
) the title pretty much says it's Covenant... "Fatal Reverant" meaing he's back from the dead.
I told you he'd be back, you can't have a series named after the character (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant ) Without him making an appearance.

I am left with the feeling that TC was somehow tied into the new Staff of Law, but couldn't tell Linden this. There are certain things that he could not tell her because the Law wouldn't permit it.
By going back in time to retrieve it she somehow freed TC. By finding the Staff she was finding TC, or perhaps freeing him.
I think the next book will cronicle how TC and Jerimiah end up arriving at Revelstone.
I also think that Jerimiah has been with TC the whole time. Remember Roger telling Linden that Jerimiah had been empty for ten years. Pehaps his 'soul' was trapped in the Land ever since putting his hand into the flame.

That's a pretty good theory. I actually marked the spot in the text. Here's what it says.Jerico wrote:I also think that Jerimiah has been with TC the whole time. This almost - almost - sounds like Foul talking. It's exactly the type of thing he would say to mislead her. He's just meat. Don't you know that? An empty carcass. There's nothing you could do to save him. There hasn't been anyone in there for ten years."

Guys, I hate to argue this point...but just becuase Linden and the Haruchai can "see" does not mean a thing. Why? Lord Foul was literally at Kevin's side for years and years and years..and he never saw the real Foul. They also had the earth sight. And remember vain? Vain was a blank to Avery and her sight. Even after the One Tree when part of his arm was turned wooden, she said it wasn't even there when she closed her eyes and "looked" at him. The earth sight is not infallible. However I might hope that this is the "real" Covenant, I doubt it will be that easy.
It is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

Lord Foul managed to hide that he was ill from the other Lords - he did not attempt to successfully replace another person who was very well known to those Lords; he came to them as himself. Linden has seen Covenant - has even taken herself deep inside Covenant's mind. Any deception able to convince her it is Covenant himself must be of an entirely different kind to that which kept Foul's nature hidden.
As a side note, did nobody consider that, in the First Chronicles, the earth sight of the people of the Land couldn't "read" Covenant (as Atiaran and the Lords admit, among other things)? Perhaps the Haruchai also cannot "read" the perceived Covenant's "truth" - at least not completely. On the other hand, Linden's earth sense is much more powerful - since nowhere else we have heard of people of the Land able to do even just half as much as Linden did with her sense (although it's also true that the old people of the Land would never willingly have possessed someone)... So maybe her sight can go deeper than the Haruchai's in this matter. Still, she's still in love with Covenant, and we all know love is blind...
I think she will try to give it to him. Most of the final chapters of Runes focused on how apt the Staff-of-Law was for her and how inappropriate the white gold was.Old Darth wrote:If it is the real Thomas Covenant will Linden give him the ring? Will he want or need it? That decision has serious consequences down either path.
