Best Best Selling Album

According to this website www.askmen.com/toys/top_10_60/67_top_10_list.html, these are some of the best selling albums in the USA of all time.

Which of them do you like the best? The least? Do you own any of them?

White Album, then The Wall, then Led Zep IV. The rest don't interest me.

They feel too generic to me, whereas the albums I mentioned appeal to my tastes. I could go into more detail and write a long manifseto about why I don't like them, but that's not fun for anyone!

I'll go along with the White Album on top. Second would be a toss up between the Wall, Zep, and Rumours - which is truly a masterpiece.

And although they certainly count to the industry, and sold all those copies, I don't consider greatest hits albums in these lists.

The one on the list I like best: ZOSO. (I don't mean to overlook the White Album, but at least ZOSO isn't saddled with Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da.)

The one I like the least:

Well, I haven't listened to the Bodyguard soundtrack, Shania Twain's Come On Over, or the Eagles' Greatest Hits. I do like Twain's spunk and sense of fun, so I may actually one day sit down and listen to her music, disturbing as that may sound. And there remains the remote possibility that one day I may become soooo mellow and bored that the Eagles will actually seem exciting to my ears. But I cannot see myself becoming so desperate or masochistic that I would want to listen to the Bodyguard soundtrack. So it wins.

The one I like the least that I've actually listened to: a tie between MJ's Thriller, and BJ's Greatest Hits Vol. I & II. Thriller has Billie Jean and Beat It, two of the greatest pop songs ever written (imo), but their presence only underlined how weak the rest of the album was. Billy Joel has written a handful of songs over the years that I genuinely like, and they're all represented on his Vol. I & II compilation. But those few memorable songs are surrounded by dreary singer-songwriter stuff that I just have no patience for.

Ones on the list I have right now: ZOSO, Back In Black.

Listened to at many a party and enjoyed and was tempted to buy, but nah..

Led Zeppelin IV
wish I owned
The Wall by Pink Floyd
very happy I own

Thriller by Michael Jackson

Pffft, if you feel that way, but I consider the White Album a way bigger masterpiece than Zep IV. Don't get me wrong; Zep IV is solid, but it's product (the record retreats from their earlier willingness to experiment). Then again, comparing Zep and Beatles is apples and oranges, really. Maybe I'm a little biased, but one is bombastic Brit proto-metal, the other The Freaking Beatles/Shakespeare of rock and roll. Okay, very biased.

Since Led Zep and the Beatles are the two biggest-selling bands of their respective eras, I guess it's only natural that they invite comparison. Plus, it's fun!

Now, if the Beatles are the Shakespeare of rock and roll, then Zep is...uh...er...(tries to think of some other notable dead literary European white guy)

The Wall is my favorite album right now. I've been listening to the live version of it (Is There Anybody Out There?) and so it definitely tops this list.

Marlowe? He was a playwright in Shakespeare's time. Some even think he was Shakespeare!

Ah man yes! While I love the studio version's perfection, the live version is my favorite. It has such energy!

Does this list mean the most albums sold,
or the how long they had been on the best-selling list?

(Check out how long "Dark Side Of The Moon" was
listed in the top 200 selling album list.
"Thriller" may had sold more copies, but "Dark Side Of The Moon" stayed on the charts a LOT longer.)

As far as the poll goes, I voted on Led Zeppelin.

I own Rumours, The White Album, The Wall, Zeppelin IV, and enough Billy Joel to not need the greatest hits stuff. I like the Wall the best, but the 4 I own are all very special to me. If I had to pick a least favorite, I guess I'd have to go with AC/DC, but it's still a favorite, just a little less than Thriller, which is a little less favorite than the rest. Heh, I need to go buy the Eagles one now.
