The Kemper Revisited...

Post by danlo »

At the SRD forum in Ahira's Hangar I wrote,
In a very strange way I almost see Kasreyn of the Gyre as an equal to Covenant's position. He's smart, but he too thinks with his head, he has his own addiction and disease: his coryell. THE most intense thing about Kasreyn is that he, and the coryell, combine to form a faucet of evil apart from Foul's body of influence. If I remember correctly the Raver(s) came very close to touching the new shores, but never made it ashore...When Kasreyn ties TC to the chair and makes him shut up and listen for once in his fool life it becomes a SERIOUS wake up call for Covenant! Look evil exists apart from in YOUR head in this dream!! LOOK YOU IDIOT!!! This is NOT a dream, this proves it!!!

Do you I like it here? Isn't it obvious I've made MY own deal w/the devil? you're not alone pal...
I know this is reviving an old thread--but I just can't accept that Kasreyn merely appeared in Bhrathairealm where is he from? What are your thoughts on this weird mysterious guy? Does the coryell really have any connection to LF, is it really independant evil? If so, how? :?

(Happy Birthday Mr. Donaldson!!!!!!!!!!!)

Interesting questions, danlo. I don't have any answer or thoughts!

Is this really SRD's birthday?

Happy Birthday, SRD!!!

So many possibilities, Danlo.

As we saw in The One Tree, there is much on the world of TCTC beyond the Land. It could be that Kasreyn is simply from another realm, where he learned sorcery and then came to Bhrathairealm, an obviously prosperous realm. He is obviously very knowledgeable about magic, he knew about white gold and how to fight it.

Or it could be that Foul dispatched him out of the Land to keep tabs on things going on out there, like for instance the One Tree and Elohim?

Another interesting thought, were all three Ravers accounted for in the Third Chronicles? 8O

OH, I got it! Maybe he was an Unfettered gone bad!!! heh heh

Impossible to know how much of his knowledge may have actually come from the croyel. Maybe those things know about gold and white gold, but are not able to use them directly, and so need a host? In return, it gives longevity? The croyel must get SOMEthing in return for what it does for the host.

How long is the Kasreyn supposed 2 have lived? Could he have originally been from the northern parts of the Land and had a coryel from an arghuleh attached 2 him?

I kno..just a crazy thought, but it was Sky's post about 3 years ago on the old KW Discussion Forum and F & F's Unfettered espousal that got me thinking, Sky wrote
.. 'your impressions of these journeys' .. 'The Croyel' .. didn't we meet them in WGW too? I cant remember now .. if that was so or not .. Kasreyn where did he come from? .. We know he came to Brathairealm because somehow he discovered 'gold' there .. which is interesting isnt it .. why didnt he make his own 'white gold' .. perhaps missing the necessary inferior metal to mix the 'gold' with ..

I believe it does mention something about what the croyel gets in return - doesn't it sort of sap the life out of it's host?

An Unfettered gone bad! I like that.Who's to say an Unfettered didn't have a private vision of gold? We'll probably never know. :( I remember Pitchwife telling Linden that he came from across the sea.

And I also remember Findail telling Covenant that the croyel are beings of hunger and sustenance. :?:

Speaking of birthdays, mine was yesterday. Unfortunately, I couldn't get on the board all day yesterday.

I don't think I care much for being 26.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

found this passage regarding The Kemper's age:
...prolonged in years far beyond even a Giant's span.
But even that doesn't help me w/my absolutely crazy theory that the Kasreyn is Lord Prothall who ventured above the Northron Climbs, fought and was prosessed by an arghule's coyell. As Foamy pointed out 2 me he'd have 2 b over 4000 years old. 8O (does say that he came from across the seas, tho...)

I always thought that Kaseryn was sort of a free lance bad guy.

I find sad though, the thought that Kaseryn could be Prothall. :( Prothall is such a noble figure.

Didn't Findail say that the croyel inhabit the dark places of the earth? Perhaps he was a Unfettered one, like the one who studied the rocks for the history of the Land, gone bad.

I've always pictured Kasreyn like the evil wizard in the tale of Aladdin - coming from a far place, seeking for gold and treasure, trying to lure the ring from TC like the lamp from Aladdin... :-D

I like the Kemper. Good villain. The only human in all the world who seems to possess a power based on something that is not earthpower.

I agree, Ryzel.

I would hate the thought that it was Prothall gone bad!
