That Mr. Simon guy from American Idol said the "best song ever" was this'an. I don't know about that, but it's in the top 5, I'd say.

Unchained Meldoy

My love, my darling
I hunger for your touch
Alone, lonely time
And time goes by
So slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow to the sea
To the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh
Wait for me
Wait for me
I'll be coming home
Wait for me
My love, my darling
I hunger, hunger
For your love
For love. Lonely time
And time goes by
So slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Jim Croce lost his life tragically almost 30 years ago. My dad liked his music, and always played it early on Saturday mornings. I'm listening to this song now, and it is in my opinion the best out of many contenders.

Operator

Operator, well could you help me place this call
See the number on the matchbook is old an faded
She's living in L.A
With my best old ex friend Ray
Guy she said she knew well and sometimes hated

(CHORUS)
But isn't that the way they say it goes
But let's forget all that
And give me the number if you can find it
So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show
I've overcome the blow
I've learned to take it well
I only wish my words could just convince myself
That it just wasn't real
But that's not the way it feels

Operator, well could you help me place this call
Cause I can't read the number that you just gave me
There's something in my eyes
You know it happens every time
I think about the love that I thought would save me

(REPEAT CHORUS)
No, no, no, no, that's not the way it feels

Operator, let's forget about this call
There's no one there I really wanted to talk to
Thank you for your time
Oh you've been so much more than kind
You can keep the dime

(REPEAT CHORUS)

John Lennon - Oh My Love lyrics
Oh my love for the first time in my life,
My eyes are wide open,
Oh my lover for the first time in my life,
My eyes can see,

I see the wind,
Oh I see the trees,
Everything is clear in my heart,
I see the clouds,
Oh I see the sky,
Everything is clear in our world,

Oh my love for the first time in my life,
My mind is wide open,
oh my lover for the first time in my life,
My mind can feel,

I feel the sorrow,
Oh I feel dreams,
Everything is clear in my heart,
Everything is clear in our world,
I feel the life,
Oh I feel love.

I'm in a bit of a daze at the minute after playing solitaire non-stop for half an hour with music blaring in my ears. One thing I do know from this is that all songs now pale in comparison to this:
Playground school bell rings again
Rain clouds come to play again
Has no one told you she's not breathing?
Hello, I'm your mind
Giving you someone to talk to
Hello
If I smile and don't believe
Soon I know I'll wake from this dream
Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken
Hello, I'm the lie
Living for you so you can hide
Don't cry
Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping
Hello, I'm still here
All that's left of yesterday

Infelice--if you haven't noticed, most of my poems these days have been about love, though for no reason, strangely. I've never been in love, but I think I seem to know enough about it, somehow. Makes me wonder about reincarnation these days.

You're really just a big softy under all that evil exterior.
When you do finally fall in love LF, she will be one very lucky girl - your poems - lovely. :)

God Only Knows by The Beach Boys

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you
[break]
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
God only knows what I'd be without you [repeat to fade]

This song's been in my head for the last couple of weeks.
The Beach Boys - Sloop John B

We come on the sloop John B
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night
Got into a fight
Well I feel so broke up
I want to go home

So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up
I wanna go home

The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff John Stone
Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home

So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
(Hoist up the John B's sail)
Hoist up the John B
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home

The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why don't they let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on

So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home

Faded Flowers

This is the sound of poisons the sickness no one knows
No one is crying for us this time as shapes are blown under miracles
of snow
Weave a circle around him three times
You have to plan your moves at these times
Our hearts are breaking one more song to go

These eyes are blind this is a pure thing
These hands I kiss tragic as anything
These eyes are blind this is a pure thing
All splash and hiss beyond my measuring

Only anacrusis the main event remains
Shameful and Naked out there in the great cold outdoors
We have to learn these things again
Bask in the iridescent glow
They lead to something I don't know
There is no doubt upon us when the greasy men come back again

These eyes are blind this is a pure thing
These hands I kiss tragic as anything
These eyes are blind this is a pure thing
All splash and hiss beyond my measuring

These faded flowers precious as memories
A veil of cloud correct as energy
We had some good machines but they don't work no more
I loved you once don't love you anymore

These eyes are blind this is a pure thing
These hands I kiss tragic as anything
These eyes are blind this is a pure thing
All splash and hiss beyond my measuring
These faded flowers precious as memories
A veil of cloud correct as energy

This Big Hush

Is there a fire in the sky?
Is there a moon up there?
Is anything alive now
This darkness hears what I hear
This is a breathless silence
A moment out of time
I see your face in the shadows
The telltale signs are in your eyes
More than I can hold in my hand
Running through the gaps like water
Aching with a passion inside
Deep as the river of desire
The ashes and the fire
Turn in this night inside
And the light from you

Is there a flame in the dark?
Is there a bright heart-star?
These creatures look the same now
We freeze wherever we are
We wake alone in the blackness
We sleep wherever we fall
One dream all around us
This big hush infects us all
Holding up an animal fear
Soaking up the waves underwater
Attuned to music no one can hear
Forever in this half light of desire
The ashes and the fire
Turn in this night inside
And the light from you
Oh, desire
The ashes and the fire
Turn in this night inside
And the light from you

More than I can hold in my hand
Running through the gaps like water
Aching with a passion inside
Deep as the river of desire
The ashes and the fire
Turn in this night inside
Oh, desire
The ashes and the fire
Turn in this night inside
Turn in this night inside
Turn in this night inside
And the light from you

God Only Knows (IIRC) was the first rock hit to have the word God in the title. Exceptional song, sung by Carl Wilson and written by his brother, Brian. :)
"Do you have a wife?"
"At one time."
"What happened to her?"
"She has been dead."
"How long ago did she die?"
"Two thousand years."

Lake Of Fire

Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go to the lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the fourth of July

I knew a lady who came from Duluth
She got bit by a dog with a rabid tooth
She went to her grave just a little too soon
And she flew away howling on the yellow moon

Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go down to the lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the fourth of July

Now the people cry and the people moan
And they look for a dry place to call their home
And try to find some place to rest their bones
While the angels and the devils try to make them their own

Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go down to the lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the fourth of July

I revisited (What's The Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis, and the words to this song really hit a spot with me for some reason ... maybe it has to do with all the war and terrorists threats and stuff..

Don't Look Back In Anger

Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Are gonna fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
Cos you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside the Summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
Cos you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

So Sally can wait, she knows its too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger
I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If its night or day
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a Rock n Roll band
Who'll throw it all away

You know, I finally remembered to mention this song and it's connection to SRD, so I did a google search for the lyrics. I found this page.

You can check this page for the entire lyrics to the song.

Sine the start of the seventeenth century / there's been the scent of unseasoned wood burning in the air / and the conquest of nature meant nothing at all / While we betray exception, we take all that's there / But motives are translucent in the reflection of shame / Our actions ghostly remnants of our ancestral ways...

This song blew me away when I was sixteen and changed the coarse of my thinking forever. It's Muzzle by the Smashing Pumpkins off of Melon Collie and the Infinate Sadness.

i fear that i am ordinary, just like everyone
to lie here and die among the sorrows
adrift among the days
for everything i ever said
and everything i've ever done is gone and dead
as all things must surely have to end
and great loves will one day have to part
i know that i am meant for this world
my life has been extraordinary
blessed and cursed and won
time heals but i'm forever broken
by and by the way...
have you ever heard the words
i'm singing in these song?
it's for the girl i've loved all along
can a taste of love be so wrong
as all things must surly have to end
and great loves will one day have to part
i know that i am meant for this world
and in my mind as i was floating
far above the clouds
some children laughed i'd fall for certain
for thinking that i'd last forever
but i knew exactly where i was
and i knew the meaning of it all
and i knew the the distance to the sun
and i knew the echo that is love
and i knew the secrets in your spires
and i knew the emptiness of youth
and i knew the solitude of heart
and i knew the murmurs of the soul
and the world is drawn into your hands
and the world is etched upon your heart
and the world so hard to understand
is a world you can't live without
and i knew the silence of the world

"...despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage..." (TC's theme song...) absolutely beautiful Hellfire! This is dedicated 2 ur baby Syl and F & F ( ):

There must be something that we can eat, maybe find another lover.
Should I fly to Los Angeles, find my asshole brother.
Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow, Daves on sale again,
we kissy kiss in the rear view,
we're so bored your to blame
Try see it once my way.
Everything zen, everything zen, I don't think so.
Everything zen, everything zen, I don't think so.

Raindogs howl for the century, a million dollars a stake.
As you search for your demigod, and you fake with a saint.
Theres no sex in your violence, theres no sex in your violence.
Theres no sex in your violence, theres no sex in your violence.
Try see it once my way.

Everything zen, everything zen, I don't think so.
Everything zen, everything zen, I don't think so.
Everything zen, everything zen.

I don't believe that Elvis is dead, yeah.
I don't believe that Elvis is dead.
I don't believe that Elvis is dead, yeah.
I don't believe that Elvis is, Elvis is...

Theres no sex in your violence. Theres no sex in your violence.
Theres no sex in your violence. Theres no sex in your violence.
Try see it once my way. Everything zen,
everything zen. I don't think so.
zen, zen, ooh I don't think so.
Mm, I don't think so, uh I don't think so.

House of Gold

Some people steal; they cheat and lie
For wealth and what it will buy,
But don't they know on Judgment Day
That gold and silver will melt away.

I'd rather be in a deep, dark grave
And know that my poor soul was saved
Than to live in this world in a house of gold,
Deny my God, and lose my soul.

What good is gold and silver, too
If your heart's not pure and true?
Oh, sinner hear me when I say,
"Fall down on your knees and pray."

Oh, sinner hear me when I say,
"Fall down on your knees and pray."

Written by Hank Williams and performed by Kenny Rankin

Helmet - "Unsung"

Your contribution left unnoticed some
Association with an image
Just credit time for showing up again
Attention wandered I'm left with it

Gone by sin to slowly
Can't pass it up
Then I thought nothing is right
I turned it off

To die unsung would really bring you down
Although wet eyes would never suit you
Walk through no archetypal suicide
Die young is far to boring these days

Your will to speak clearly
exposed too much
Unsung once too often
Could not rub off

Alice in Chains - "Don't Follow"

Hey, I ain't never coming home
Hey, I'll just wander my own road
Hey, I can't meet you here tomorrow
Say goodbye don't follow
Misery so hollow

Hey you, you're livin' life full throttle
Hey you, pass me down that bottle, yeah
Hey you, you can't shake me round now
I get so lost and don't know how, yeah
And it hurts to care, I'm going down

Forgot my woman, lost my friends
Things I'd done and where I've been
Sleep in sweat the mirrors cold
See my face it's growin' old
Scared to death no reason why
Do whatever to get me by
Think about the things I said
Read the page it's cold and dead

Take me home (5x)

Say goodbye Don't follow
