I've applied for the submission team, since I'm the type of person who can't help but correct spelling.

Probably, but I would enjoy the submissions team more, and would be just as good at it as at editing. Correcting spelling is just an anal habit.

Count me in for the submission team. I've been knocking a couple ideas for stories around in my head. What's the deadline for submissions? Is there a limit to the number of submissions per member?
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

The selecting team and editing team are one and the same? I was under the impression they were two separate groups. Looks like my services won't be needed, then. There are already a handful of members onboard, which seems sufficient to me. I don't think we want a large, cumbersome committee.Edge wrote:But it is.Matrixman wrote:I know, the thread for volunteer editors isn't up yet....![]()

dAN suggested I edit the anthology, and I would be honored to. (If everybody else hates the idea, blame Edge for calling this to my attention
) My question is, how professional do you want your standards to be? It might require making some shift in my usual mindset, because I only know of one published fiction writer to volunteer so far -- aTOMic.
It seems to me you are asking for an editor rather than a proofreader, and that involves things like asking the author to change a scene's tone, moving scenes around, and whatever else the editor deems needed to create the best possible story. I might suggest you choose Myste and me to team on the editing. She knows what's what, and two opinions would help keep editing perspective.
MM, a skilled proofreader is always appreciated.

Okay guys. Here is how I for one view the committees.Matrixman wrote:The selecting team and editing team are one and the same? I was under the impression they were two separate groups. Selection committee: Since no one should be forced to have to vote for or against their own story I think this committee should be comprised of at least three members who have no plans to contribute stories. Members who sit on the selection committee can also serve as editors.
Editing Team: Any and all members who feel they have the time and ability to help review and edit the selected stories. I have no problem with members who contribute stories also acting as an editor.
Matrix, from my own experiences getting my first book edited by Watch members it was clear that not everyone had the same amount of time to devote to editing therefore having a large pool of volunteers is essential if we hope to set and meet any deadlines.
That is a long and fancy was of saying we need you.

DL, I was unaware of what you have just posted.
I'm sure we would all like to publish the most professional collection of stories that we are able. I personally would be thrilled to have you and Myste handle the editing. If you find that the volume of work becomes overwhelming there appear to be plenty of volunteers waiting to help out.
Now we just have to put together a selection group.
I should stop typing here and get busy with my own story.

And you can ask Khaliban's opinion. I edited his Voyager novel, what little it needed.

We are going to decide a deadline after selection comittee and the editing team has been finalised.Caer Sylvanus wrote:Count me in for the submission team. Thanks for typing all that out, TOM, now I don't have to.

Though I only joined yesterday, Edge recruited (and threatened and cajoled) me, I believe, in hopes that I would participate in this. And I am interested.
Is it acceptable for a brand new newbie to get involved in submitting something?
Of course it depends on the deadlines, since I am heavily committed right now to doing 50,000 words before the end of November. (Of course, I do only have 7,000 left, and since I'm writing between 1,500-2,000 per day....)
Where would I look to get the full information? This thread?
I await further developments with baited breath.
(Okay--no more baited breath. I can only hold those worms in my mouth far so long....Get it? Bait? Worms? Ha ha ha. Oh, I crack myself up.)

Dragonlily, I want you to EDIT my submission, not just proofread it. Of course, I need to submit it and get it past that stage first.....

I see no problem with you submitting something. Welcome to the watch.ChoChiyo wrote:Though I only joined yesterday, Edge recruited (and threatened and cajoled) me, I believe, in hopes that I would participate in this. And I am interested.

The tentative deadline is late january, but it may be subject to change.

Totally do-able. Thanks!
What are the word limits and so on?
Is there a place where this info exists?
And is there a specific theme or genre--or is it anything goes?
(My preference is Fantasy/SF, but I am flexible.)
