I've just finished the chapter when the quest leaves the land of the Elohim in the second chronicles of Thomas Covenant.
Oh my God!!!!!! How cool is Vain????? Spoiler
Did anyone else really enjoy it when he managed to escape from those elohim walts???? So amazing to see them arrogant bastards get their asses kicked by Vain the way he busts his way out of elmensdene is amazing!!!!!
Vain rocks! That's one of the many reasons he's my favorite character in all the Chronicles and that part is one of the main reasons why The One Tree is my favorite book!
Vain is awesome....wait until you see what he does in White Gold Wielder! It only gets BETTER!
For Myles-- When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
For Mom-- Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings
Yeah Vain is brilliant... Couldn't agree more. So far he's one of my favourite characters in the books. But I don't think anyone could quite beat Amok in the race for favourite character. He is just amazing!!!!

I can honestly say that you will not be disappointed. Trust me on this.
Fave character? So far I'd say Hile Troy. But I'll be rereading the second chrons in a couple of days (right after I finish up TPTP), so I'm sure that opinion will change.
Mr Personality.... heheheheh...
I was never that impressed with him, pound for pound I was into Findail more. Although that was a really great scene. Restored a little bit of pride in the group, no?
Start where you are,
use what you have,
do what you can.
Yeahp, that's pretty much how I responded to him too I liked how the characters kept on talking about him and thinking about him. I always imagined he was a cardboard cutout
Start where you are,
use what you have,
do what you can.

I thought it was an interesting reversal that after all of the damage done by ur-viles in the first Chronicles that Covenant would actually be accompanied by one in the second.
I remember thinking "WTF?" when Foamfollower gave Vain to Covenant and told him to trust the ur-vile.
What I have wondered is: if Vain were the pinnacle of the ur-vile's lore, and their finest creation, why didn't they "mass-produce" beings like Vain?

Oooh, I love Nom too. He's got battering ram arms, what's not to love? I do like Vain alot tho, b/c when he gets wounded, I feel bad for him. Never for Findail tho, he can go cry me a river. Get over yourself!

Whatever is said in Latin sounds profound.
I believe in the One who says there is life after this.
Now tell me how much more open can my mind be?
Yeah your right, nom is super cool. Backward bending legs, no face, and as you say battering rams for arms!!! all excellent qualities, not to mention his destructive disposition.
I also agree with all that is said vain totaly rocks so far he is the best character in the book so far i think. I have only just finished reading the first book and am now on the second i dont have as much time as i would like to raed the books with scool and all
so in conclusion vain totaly rocks
ps. this is my first post i hope it is all right
God places the heaviest burden on those who can carry it's weight
You know, I'm not that big a fan of Vain, myself. If there's one character in the second chrons that I truly enjoy, it's Pitchwife. He seems to be eternally joyful, finding the positive in most anything. Much like Saltheart, whom I enjoyed the most in the first chrons.
