I searched Circuit City and Wal Mart for the sacred Shatner, but no dice.

I did too, and finally found a copy at Barnes & Nobles.

I didn't check your Shatner link but heard on the radio today that it has Henry Rollins, Joe Jackson and some other guest artists on it, in addition to Ben Folds...

I just got it myself. I'll have to let it 'sit' with me for a few days before I know how much I like it, though.

I'll be honest, musically I really like Vertigo, lyrically, I'm really disappointed. I really miss War-era U2.

U2 peaked with Joshua Tree. Don't get me wrong, I like thier music. I just think Bono's songwriting hasn't been that good since.

Atomic Bomb is an excellent album. Better than ATYCLB imho. "Sometimes you can't make it" and "Crumbs from your Table" are classics. "All because of you" is a wonderful hard driving rocker. And "Love and peace ...or else" is a sonic adventure reminiscent of Achtung Baby!

This album isn't Joshua Tree nor Achtung baby but it is a meld of both and IMHO possibly their third best album.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Well, I'm not gonna rate the new U2 cd that high; not it'not plenty good enough for me, but because I will always like the first 4 cd's the best. I got Brian Wilson's "Smile" and like that one too. I'm currently waiting for the new Spock's Beard cd Octane to get here so I can drool over that. I think I have 4 more weeks to wait, tho.

There's a new Tori Amos album out. www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=Ahl2zefwk4gfo

Also, new stuff from Mogwai and Dead Meadow.

Portland's finest, Sleater-Kinney, have a new record out tomorrow, called The Woods. If it's good (and I've no reason to doubt it will be) then they may just become my favourite band of all.

Unfortunately I've decided to wait the extra week and get the special edition album with the DVD. What's with that?

I've just noticed that The White Stripes have a new album, Get Behind Me Satan, due out in two weeks.
