Not a very creative title for this site-but here is my attempt at a TC influenced poem.
The Unbeliever
They turn to me for salvation
Give me their useless faith
Expect me to perform miracles
But I don’t even know this place
They hail and bow and offer guidance
My report only feeds their sorrow
I can feel the power when I enter her
Nevertheless, this dream will be over by tomorrow
This shameful sin is mine alone
But it seems larger than this land
I insist this burden is mine to carry
Yet, I cannot without a hand
Don’t put your trust in me
Don’t offer giantish tales and boon
I cannot be your only hope
I know I’ll leave her soon
This guilt consumes my sanity
My only salvation is unbelief
Her taut shoulders hide disgust
The land will hide her grief
You can have this simple ring
Its vows have all been broken
You say it has the most pure power
But to me, it’s a useless token
I’ve made promises impossible to keep
I never said I loved you
I’ve slaughtered, I’ve hated, I’ve burned with rage
And still my actions are too few
Don’t be the one to judge me
And say I should surrender
If you were called hero in this strange land
Could you be their defender?
