Song Lyrics

Post by Sheriff Lytton »

All this poetry and no lyrics. I offer one of mine (sometime in the next year I should have the song recorded) that I've had kicking around for a few years.

THIRTY PIECES

I have always been in here
Staring down the barrel of seventy years
A leaf beside your open flame
I'll be burning with you when you screw up my life again

I was always here with you
And I remain a party to the things that you do
They tell me you can feel my pain
So tell me if I feel it when you screw up my life again

And did thirty pieces buy you
Or the one who you became
In whose name should I defy you
For the dignity of shame ?

I'll place your glasses on my eyes
Stand there blinded by the lies
Try not to smear the rosy lens
I want to see it clearly when you screw up my life again

I'll live my life in fear of you
And regular reminders of the things you can do
If I should so much as refrain
To swallow my opinion when you screw up my life again

Smothered in this month of Sundays
Acting out this passion play
Thirty pieces buys protection
From the dignity of shame
