Your Thoughts On These Authors?
Ther are a few authors whose work I have always been curious about ... and I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they are worth reading, or whether I should avoid them completely:
Steven Brust
Melanie Rawn
Mercedes Lackey
David Farland
L.E Modesitt, Jr.
David Drake
Sean Russell
Mark Anthony
Robert Newcomb
David B. Coe
Dennis L. McKiernan
Truth be told, I trust the advice of the members here at The Watch than most of the review sites that are available on the net! Thank-you in advance for any help you can give me ...

Heh, I have managed to avoid these names for 40 years now....not purposely, of course; just never heard of them.

Dennis L. McKiernan lives in Arizona and was kind enough to drop by Bubonicon (the NM Sci-Fi/Fantasy Con) last August, along with SRD and George R. R. Martin, his reading was genuinely intriguing--and his stuff should not be missed. We've had a bunch of very good reviews about Sean Russell at the Hangar. David Drake is sort of a crapshoot--but that happens to alot of these writers who are a little too prolific...

I've read The Spellsong Cycle by Modesitt, which was pretty good, and The Runelords Series/Saga/Whatever by Farland, which was.. interesting, cause it was a bit original, but not all that great, really.
Sorta.
Sorta.

I've read two Modesitt books--The Forever Hero and The Magic of Recluce. They are both good. Very well drawn characters. He's a little wordy--but I like that. Some people do not.
He hangs around at the IBDoF forum and answers any questions you may have. He's very nice and personable.
I read the Herald Mage series from Lackey. I enjoyed them, but after a while, I got bogged down in them. The characters seemed to grow flat. But, that's been a long time ago. I should go back and give them another look.

Take that, you Varlet!

Also a big fan - but I'd recommend the 'Saga Of Recluce' series.Gil galad wrote:I'm a big fan of L.E Modesitt, Jr. He writes fantasy and sf and as a first book to read by him i'd reccomend "The Parafaith War"
