Covenant and Linden
Do any of you think that Thomas and Linden could become a couple if Covenant lived.

They already were a couple (and had coupled) by the end of the second chrons. So if Covenant didn't die, I'd say that they would definately have continued their Land relationship in the real world.
I thought for years that if there was a third chrons that we'd find out that Linden was pregnant with Covenant's child. There's always been a separation of Land and real world, but at the end of White Gold Wielder, Linden left with the ring in her hand. How did it get off of Covenant's finger? Berenford was there when Linden regained consciousness, so I doubt that she could have taken it without him noticing. It just ended up in her hand, and I took that as a hint that there's more of a connection between the two worlds than previously thought - and that it could be used to justify Linden being pregnant in the real world through all their love making in the Land.

yes most assuredly!!
the ring is the one thing that screams the Land's reality! It is the one anomaly that defies explanation ..
I thought that was very clever .. SRD keeps us hanging all through the books .. constantly battling with the reality or unreality of the Land .. remembering that LA's presence alone affirms the fact .. let alone any other variable ..
even HT was an uncertainty .. as we only had the slim possibility of fact or TC's imagination to hang his existence on .. but LA he knew and met in r.l.
very clever indeed!

to the real world at the end of _The One Tree._
Whether or not the Land was a real place or not, I think Linden
being pregnant by Covenant would have been a cheat. We know
that your body doesn't go into the Land-- Covenant's body was
in a hospital the first time he was translated there. Linden found
Covenant's body bleeding when he sent her back to our world--
so the idea that Covenant could somehow get her pregnant HERE
without having had relations with her in this world didn't seem
right to me.
One way to tell, I guess, would be for Linden to check her leg to
see if she had a broken foot.
I always figured that Linden copped the ring when she came backyes most assuredly!!

no no no .. she didnt take Joan's ring .. why would she?
what she saw Joan prostrate on the stone slab and thought .. mmm .. i like that wedding band she's still wearing .. <which I seriously doubt she would be wearing anyway
i do not believe it was Joan's ring ..
and as for the end of the One Tree?? did LA have possession of the ring at the end of ToT?
it was a quirk that SRD put in their to throw a spin into the story .. a very clever one at that ..

It was definately Covenant's ring.
I could see how Linden could have taken it off of Covenant's finger - he DID give it to her (in the Land), after all. But there were never any words that said she removed it from his hand. And if she did, Berenford would have seen it - he was there when she woke up.
It's also possible that she claimed it when Covenant sent her back to heal him in the cavern of the One Tree. But again - never any words to back that up. She assessed the situation, and threw herself into the fire to make him return her. He had it on in the cavern before and after little trip back to reality.
Yes - it's definately a very interesting little twist that Donaldson threw in there. The second chronicles definately came to a solid end, but that one last line added a little grain of doubt and possibility. Stunningly brilliant!

you referring to when they were in Kiril Threndor - in Mt Thunder at the end of WGW .. not the end of ToT ? ..
in chapter 20 The Sun Sage .. she takes the ring from TC
in chapter 21 To Say Farewell as LA was being translated back to our world ..
In our world TC lies deceased on a slab of stone .. and we on closer inspection .. an inspection that SRD does not afford us .. we would not find his ring on him ..
TC passed the ring to LA in the Land .. and not in our world .. and yet in our world .. she has a firm hold of it .. it is hers by right and extension.
And as TC was the white gold .. magic .. now LA retains a very real part of TC .. in the ring she carries.
very clever indeed.
in chapter 20 The Sun Sage .. she takes the ring from TC
and we know what she did with it ..SRD wrote:Linden grasped Covenant's wedding band with the thin remains of her health sense ... it was her ring now, granted to her in love and necessity ... she went to take the ring.
in chapter 21 To Say Farewell as LA was being translated back to our world ..
LA bid TC farewell spoke to he replied;SRD wrote:But the ring - Covenants ring, her ring - lay in her hand, and she felt it for comfort. ...
and the final words of the end of WGW ..SRD wrote:I'm a part of you now. You'll always remember .. I'll be with you as long as you live.
the amazing thing is that she has TC's ring in the Land .. and it .. TC's ring .. is translated with her back to our world.SRD wrote:With her right hand, Linden AVery kept a sure hold on her wedding ring
In our world TC lies deceased on a slab of stone .. and we on closer inspection .. an inspection that SRD does not afford us .. we would not find his ring on him ..

yeah i think they were made for each other .. they were both very troubled souls .. for very different reasons sure .. but still they were both a little messed up
and for one .. she would never have treated him like a freak just because he had leperosy .. she would have seen him as a real person ..

hmm....
I believe they would have been a couple personally....too much happened and they were too much a part of each other.......i think SRD hints at this with his choice of words at the end......instead of saying somthing like....she held the white gold ring...or covenants ring......it says.....her wedding ring.....i always interpreted that as some sort of marriage between Linden and Covenant, symbolic of course....but deeper than marriage in a way.....i dont know....but yeah....i see it like...Covenant and Linden were wed
Adieu!
Adieu!
oh yeah...
I forgot to emphasize her.....her wedding ring......if SRD was just trying to tell us who owned it now i think it would have been worded differently......because a ring is a ring...its the belief in the value that you assign it that matters you know.....yeah your smart kids....of course you do.....im being horribly ineloquent....beh....good day all
