The Farseer

Anyone read this trilogy by Robin Hobb? Assasin's Apprentice, Royal Assasin, and Assasin's Quest. I've finished book 1, and I'm engrossed in Royal Assasin.

I really like FitzChivalry, Chade, and Verity. The Fool has to be on the most mysterious characters ever.

But I hate Regal!

I love these books, and can't wait to find out what happens.

I love Robin Hobb! Her main characters are "almost human" if you understand what I mean (they react rather normally, make a lot of mistakes and so). I have just started on the third book in the Liveship Traders-triology and I like it even though it has a lot of sailing and water and such stuff in it...

With the Assasin-books I really liked the first 2 (ooooh - the albino jester... He(?) is cooooool!). But then I got a bit surprised at the ending of the 3d. It sort of "just quit". Unexpected since everything else is so much nice detail...

Be sure to watch out for blood-thirsty squirrels!!! LOL

Has anyone started on the The Tawny Man-series? Is it any good (rumor has it that the Fool is back???)

I will second that Ylva. I was actually quite disappointed at number three after the strong start in number one and two.

According to the blurbs for the books that I have seen it is a sort of "twenty years later" story about that guy in the first series, but I could be completely mistaken.

No, you are correct Ryzel. The series is entitled The Tawny Man, and the third and final book is due out in February.

I just finished Assassin's Quest, book 3 of "The Farseer", and I actually liked the ending.

Verity is the man! And FitzChivlary is a fascinating, realistic character.

I liked the idea of Elderlings being dragons, and the way Verity became Verity-on-a-Dragon. In his own way, he saved the Six Duchies. Not the way he had hoped or even dreamed of when he left Buck, but he still did it. Fitz is a hermit now, but in the Tawny Man, he gets some more action, I hear.

I have only read the Assasin books of the Farseer trilogy. Loved books 1 and 2, then 3rd let me down. I think i will reread the series next year.

I'm about to start ship of magic.

I've been trying to figure out what to read during my winter holiday in St Ives, Cornwall.

Nothing too heavy going as I do a lot of holiday reading semi-inebriated in the pub

just some straight forward good old fashioned High fantasy

I remembered reading the Farseer trilogy about 4 years ago and enjoyed it, so Bingo!!

is this series as enjoyable as the Farseer books?

I have only read Farseer of her three trilogies so far, but thought the first two books rocked!!!! While I liked the opening and ending of the third book, I thought the middle part sort of dragged.

I thought when they were travelling through the mountains, it would NEVER EVER end.

I do plan on getting on to the other two trilogies one of these days. I have heard Liveship Traders comes next, then the Tawny Man books. The third book of Liveship Traders supposedly ties into the Tawney Man books in some way??

I like writers who have character driven books, like Donaldson and George Martin. Hobbs is another who has character driven books.

If you like character driven books, you might enjoy it quite a bit.

Instead of bring an all-powerful dark lord type of character, Prince Regal is the playground bully all grown up, weak and despicable!

The Farseer rocks, to say the least. I think one of the best things about the trilogy is that Fitz is far from being a perfect hero. I know Royal Assassin left me going "Whoa!" at the end. Those who have read it will know what I mean.

I read and enjoyed the first two Liveship Traders books but never got around to the 3rd one. I did buy the trilogy just recently so hopefully I'll be able to sit down and read the entire trilogy just as soon as I get off my Gene Wolfe kick.

Well, I just received the Q&A from Robin today! I can't quite believe that she managed to forward this to me before flying to Australia for her book tour! So the complete interview is now online on the weblog.

Many thanks for Robin for accepting to do this, although she has a crazy schedule with the release of SHAMAN'S CROSSING. And many thanks to the people who submitted their questions. You'll see that the interview is a bit shorter than the previous ones. But Robin just couldn't answer the first version of the interview.

Regardless, the answers are informative and the Q&A is quite interesting.

The Red-ships and the Fool (although I know he's in the Tawny books), in particular. But, of course, Molly. Just read another book where the hero doesn't (yet?) get the girl, and it's just annoying. And various other things.

This was one of my most favorite series to read , love Robin Hobbs work.
