What exactly is a "read-lead"? If I am able, I will do it.
Have you hugged your arghule today?

A read lead is the person who makes the thread for the chapter. :) They summarize and/or analyze what they feel is important. :)

I posted "To Say Farewell" last Saturday. In other words we're DONE with the 2nd Chronicles--now all these dissections will be there for all time for you to enjoy and add your comment and insights to.

Today we'll start a general 2nd Chronicles (open discussion) reflection topic and we'll talk further on how to approach Runes between now and through the holidays. 8)

Sun Sep 22, 2002 10:08 pm Post subject: LFB: Golden Boy/You Cannot Hope - Discussion on Sat. 28th

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok I'll take the lead! Whoever's in 4 the Group Read: The first "read" will begin between Sept 24th and go through the 28th. As soon as I post on 28th we can begin tearing the 1st 2 chapters of LFB, Golden Boy & You Cannot Hope apart! Sign up here and/or join in on the discussion Saturday! (the following 3 chapts r very short 2: Invitation to a Betrayal, Kevin's Watch and Mithil Stonedown--totalling another 30pgs--so they r, tentatively scheduled 4 Tues, Oct 1st thut Sat, Oct 4th--sorry about screwing up on the dates!! )

Fitting that Danlo started & finished the whole 'Dissection of the Land'
This turned out to be a fun, thoughtful & provocative 2 YEAR + group effort.

Well done to all. I've said before, this is what sets Kevinswatch apart from other boards on the web!!!!!

^That, and the free pancakes.

Well, I'd just suggest that you all take a nice, long break before you think about taking on Runes. Plus, there's fact that many people are still trying to read it for the first time...heh.

And yeah, we'll put off dissecting the Gap for a while, enough enough people feel ready.-jay

I think that we should at least wait until Mordant's Need has been fully disected before we even think about starting any other group reads. I just really don't think that the Watch can handle more than one at any one time.

I think that Runes of the Earth will create quite enough discussion over the next few years without having to disect it. I also think that it would really suck to disect Runes of the Earth, then wait a couple of years, then read Fatal Revenant, then disect it, then wait a couple of years etc etc etc.

I think it would be kewl to hold off on the Last Chronicles and start group reading The Gap in the new year, say in February. It would be a good way to encourage those new watch members who seemed to have confined themselves to the Runes of the Earth to wander around the place a little and join in the discussion in other areas.

Also, by the time we finished The Gap, then Fatal Revenant would be very close to being released, and starting a group read of the Last Chronicles with two books published would be better, in my opinion.

I would be happy to help set up The Gap group read if danlo or whoever wanted a hand.

Very good idea, Vs. And I have to say - the GAP is one series I'd be very willing to help dissect.

I'd be more than happy to work on a Gap Group Read as "Creative Consultant" (my work schedule will be more demanding this spring) but I think I would require two active comods who are willing to have the whip cracked upon THEM! 8) (We need to finish Mordant's Need though...)

I hope that whichever is done next -- whether is is the Gap or Runes -- or something down in the author forums (I know various group reads have been proposed down there, too)-- that we wait until Mordant is done (and we are getting along -- should be done in the next couple of months). :)

It can be very exhausting trying to keep up with more than one (that's the main reason I haven't done any "Man Who" -- two group reads was too much for me, I couldn't imagine trying to keep up with three). :faint:

I'd like to finish Mordant's Need before starting anything new myself--I've gotten too busy even to keep up with two group reads at a time! And I think it'd be good to wait on Runes for a while--there's lots of people who are probably getting it for Christmas or waiting for the pb who'd want in, but won't be able to participate if we jump the gun. Besides, it'll be good to have it read & let it ripen for a while before dissecting it.

The Gap, now--that would be awesome. And time-consuming! 8)

I'm not done with disecting the the second chronicles myself. (There's more too it than just starting the thread!) I had to go away for Runes, and I'm way behind.

With most of the Covenant/Chronicles discussions happening in the Runes Forum, it's been sparse talk in the WGW Dissection. In hindsight, I think it would have been better to have finished the 2nd Chrons dissection much earlier.

Glad that you'll be perusing the dissections some more, Wayfriend. It's good to have more voices there. :)

Bump.

Active threads actually related to the works of Stephen R Donaldson seem to be few and far between these days.

Should we liven it up with a new Dissection?

(I would greatly love to do the 1st chapter of the second section, where Linden is enroute to the Land!)

You would need an organizer, who assigns chapters, schedules dates.

If we can get past the hurdle of 'is it time to' yet.

Yeah, it's available in paperback now, right? I don't see any reason to hold off longer... or for that matter, to still have a separate forum, spoiler q's in the GI, etc. The book has been out for six months now.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Um...maybe because some of us are still on page 184... -jay

(Oh, I don't mind if you all do a dissection. But I think we should keep a separate Runes forum at least until I finish it...heh. Then we'll know for sure that everyone has finished it.)
