Anyone Still Play DIABLO II?? (Please stop laughing ... )

Post by Metal-Demon »

I've recently introduced my girlfriend (and her brand-new Macintosh laptop) to the DIABLO II: Lord of Destruction game.

She's a big horror-fan, and the thought of playing a Necromancer with undead minions running around intrigued her ... now she's addicted.

I've started playing again to help her thru the tough spots (since she's not very experienced when it comes to these types of games) ... and now I seem to have gotten the bug again!

We are looking forward to playing online as a team (since she moves to Brisbane, Australia next week), and what surprises me is the re-playability of this game! It's been ages since I finished it ... and I find myself having as much fun as I did when I first started!

Anyway ... I thought I'd share and ask if anyone else still plays it now and then?

I still play it for a while every now and then. I'll play it non-stop for a week or two then get bored and go back to other things, only to return a few months later. I do the same thing with Age of empires 2 as well.

I played it for the longest time, but the hack-and-slash nature of it wore off quickly. But Blizzard games have an addictive quality, so I came back to it a lot.

We must be twins 8O That's exactly how I am.

I lost a really awesome Druid when this computer caught a nasty virus and I haven't been able to bring myself to make a good character again. :-x :P

Heh, I've learnt never to uninstall anything. Ever, I must have wasted so much time installing/uninstalling things over the years.

I haven't been able to defeat Diablo yet. It seems as if you need to have about 12 hours of butt-in-chair to do that, because if you save game and come back, you have to start all over. I don't have that kind of time.

Also, I made the mistake of being a barbarian, who cannot defeat Diablo anyway, so I had to start all over as a necro ...

Advice is nice.

I defeated diablo with a barbarian...

I don't understand what you mean by having to start again if you save and come back. If you load the game you'll start back where you saved, with all quests up to the point you saved, all items, all waypoints and any quest objects you had before.

My advice is that if you try to fight diablo and lose go and get a few more levels then come back and try again.

Well, if you get to Diablo, and fight him for a few hours (literally), and then save the game, when you reload the game, you have to start back at the beginning of the level, and fight a whole level worth of monsters, which takes more hours, just to get to Diablo again, who is back to full capacity, so you have to fight him a few more hours just to be back where you were when you saved the game. By which time, you got no more time, so you save the game .... repeat ad infinitum, apparently.

If there is a secret to destroying him as a barbarian, other than whacking him a lot and replenishing healing potions as fast as humanly possible, then I would like to know it.

I used whirlwind on him, plus a really good sword.

I had more problems with those mages that you had to fight on the way in than I did with diablo, at least until I made a resist shield out of 3 perfect diamonds in a slotted shield 57% to all resists I think that gave me.

I beat diablo on normal mode then on nightmare. I never got round to finishing Hell mode though. I think I got as far as Mephisto before I got bored and stopped playing. Level 57 was the max I got to.

I defeated Diablo *and* Baal without THAT much difficulty in Normal, and had a hell of a time in Nightmare.

I am/was a Paladin - that seemed to me the best balance out of all the characters.

I play from time to time, let it run for an hour here and there, and then I don't play for weeks/months at a time. Since I have SOLVED it, I already know what is going to happen so I am not as concerned any more about "what is going to happen next."

The game still rocks, and it has aged well.

Yeah, but I don't know where you get all these perfect gems. I reached level 37 and I think I saw one once.

Use the horadric cube. Put 3 gems into it and you can transmute them into one of the next level.
e.g 3 flawlesses become 1 perfect.

I played it a LOT for years...but then Morrowind kind of got in the way. O.O I always liked making really wacky sorceress builds...I had great items too!

I'd still play it if I had friends who I could play it with, as it's most fun when one plays it with others.

*hint hint*

I love this game! I had two necros (a summoner and a boner) in the upper 80s on realm play way back when. Alas - those accounts have long expired and I'm internetless at home (I surf at the library) so I play a few times a week in SP mode. Blah.
