I believe we are discussing UNDER-pants.
I had a friend in high school who would shriek and cover her ears anytime someone said the word "panties." She thought it was a sexist word.

Halfway down the stairs Is the stair where I sit. There isn't any other stair quite like it. I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top; So this is the stair where I always stop.
Now, this isn't definitive, but merely my own interpretation:
Panties are made with more material than a thong, and less than a ladies' brief (otherwise known as grannypants). Basically, anything from a French cut thru bikini thru hipster.
Thongs are just thongs. Anyone else remember when thongs were something one wore on one's feet?
Grannypants are cotton and cover the entire bum up to the waist. They are the feminine equivalent of "tightie-whities"-- they are universally less attractive than other options, and arguably more comfortable.
Tightie-whities can be cute, if worn with tube socks. Boxers are preferable. Boxer briefs are for people who don't know what they want out of life and can never make up their minds. Be wary.

I can't understand how a man could possibly wear silk boxers. I had a pair, wore 'em once. I couldn't stop moving around, it just felt so cool and smooth and good....I couldn't concentrate on a damn thing.

Sorry. I wish I could share the mental image that just gave me....
Cail, a look of utter and besotted bliss, squirming from side to side in his chair, moaning softly with pleasure, while all the people at his place of employment cast odd and mildly frightened or disgusted looks his way....
I can't help myself.
Hee hee hee heeeeee

Wow, this has so crossed the line into family-unfriendly.
