Renaissance music

Now, I know this is a rather esoteric topic... ;)

...But I am really wondering if anyone here enjoys renaissance chorale music.

My husband and I used to go frequently, when we lived in the NY area, to hear a chorale group called The Waverly Consort, which specializes in this kind of music. (In fact, we had season tickets to the group's performances for a couple of years.) It is most often sung a capella, or with a few early instruments, and has some really interesting harmonies.

Another group we used to go to hear sometimes was called The Boston Camerata - I don't know if the group is still around.

Anyone else familiar with this type of music?

Those are two great groups for Renaissance music. My favorites are Anthony Rooley & the Consort of Musik, and Concerto Italiano. Both do a lot of madrigals, which I love. Claudio Monteverdi is one of my favorite composers. He very clearly bridges the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

I had a feeling you would like this kind of music, Fist and Faith. :)

One of my favorite composers of the period is Salamone Rossi Hebreo.

Very cool, duchess!:) I love that stuff. At the end of the day (*chuckle*) I prefer chamber music to orchestral, and I guess madrigals are sort of chamber music for voices.

my favorite song that we sung in concert was in Polish! it was a very pretty lullaby. :)

Have I ever mentioned the band Rasputina to you guys? If you like chamber music and you like alternative (or sexy female vocals), it's a good pick.
