Linden and the White Gold

Post by Revan »

At the end of WGW, how come Linden is able to use the white gold without venom or a power to trigger it. If her health sense is what you think is the reason, thats crap, because Covenant had it as well.

Covenant was closed off from the Land, unable to permit himself to accept that he had an immense power - He was only able to release it when near power (1st chrons) or under great emotion (2nd chrons), until towards the end the Venom caused him to lose his control - the fits caused the Wild Magic to be unleashed as it was near power, but more violently, and this repeated until his mental barriers were totally worn down.
Remember that even before the venom the more he used it the more he could control it - In TWL he controlled when the Magic and the Orcrest's power connected.

Linden was forced by her extreme health-sense to accept the Land, take it in, so she was more readily able to accept the Wild Magic. At first she only took it through Covenant - taking advantage of his worn-down barriers to, for example, heal Mistweave. Later, when it was given to her it was rightly hers, and through her health-sense and acceptance of the Land she was able to see and use the power of the ring, more through intuition than conscious effort (in the healing of the Land, that is).

I don't think that white gold requires the trigger - I think that was Covenant's need. It was always difficult for him to use it without some kind of trigger, although he did a few times - in the cavern of the One Tree he called it up without a trigger, and when he shaved with it while on Starefare's Gem.

Remember that Hile Troy called up the wild magic without a trigger (for that instant before the forestal yanked him back).

Covenant was a tool in the 2nd chronicles; by accepting fouls terms he fell under fouls rules. Linden did not.
I think it was mainly her personality (who she was) in combination with her health sense and freedom that allowed her to use the power

I do not think that the White Gold was difficult to use at all. It was only that it was difficult for TC to use it for various reasons.

Linden did not have these problems and so she was capable of using the white gold easily.

health sense has nothing to do with it as you rightly point out Tuv.

It's more to do with acceptance I think. TC could never use the ring with ease because he never was comfortable or truly accepting of his position in the Land. He always had a problem with power too.

There's a lot more to it than just using the ring, which in itself never proved a problem for anyone who wanted it badly enough and accepted the Land (Hile, Linden, Foul). TC is also the wild magic without need for the ring. His problem (and therefore lack of ability to aritculate the magic) was that he never believed this until the very end where he realised that wild magic couldn't be used against him. How could it? He is wild magic.

TC needed to wake upto what he was before he could do anything about it.

i think lindin could use it because she had seen TC use it and she knew how and i think the staff of law helped, drool knew how to use it to some extent then foul showed him more of its powers
