Masters of the Land..Chapter 11-slight spoiler

Post by drew »

The begining of the chapter, Linden thinks she hears TC calling her name, with a low thumping in the background, it turns out to be Liand pounding at the door.

Was it just me, or did anyone think that she was receiving CPR, or getting diffibulated, and someone calling her name in the real world?

Yeah that's a good point. Also, I thought it odd that Linden would assume she is dead/dying in the real world, given that there are trained first aiders (the cops) nearby. Then again, she is a doctor and would realise just how bad her wound is. Funny how is mirror's covenant's. Off topic.

I thought that part was strange too! I mean Linden wishes TC would just leave her alone. That maybe if he did go away, all of her problems would too! But the flashlight thing was errie, almost like it was a real dream, not one where TC was 'really' calling her.

Linden knows the bullet went in through her breastbone, and came out her back. That's a very bad place to get a bullet -- it almost certainly went through her heart, and it would be hard for it _not_ to cut open a major blood vessel, and there's a good chance it cut the spinal cord. Any of those are pretty much very fatal very fast.

But not quite guaranteed fatal. If the bullet missed spine and major blood vessels, if it only punctured a lung or went under the heart without severing the aorta, a modern trauma center could still save Linden, as long as she got there within an hour or so.
Choiceless, you were given the power of choice. I elected you for the Land but did not compel you to serve my purpose in the Land... Only thus could I preserve the integrity of my creation.

All of which raises the question: at the end of the series, if Linden is teetering on the verge of death in our world, will she be given the choice to stay in the Land, or return to the "real" world?

Aaah the Polarity..

..on that note...I seem to recall,,in horrible graphic detail the splattering of Rogers blood on to Linden just before her being knocked into darkness with the Presumption of begining to die..the assumed hole in her back, was not definite. Its possible,,that the bullet that caused Rogers blood to be splattered on to Linden , was the same bullet that hit Linden,,friendly fire so to speak. I think that the author would go there, rather than have linden taken out by poor marksmenship by the deputys. In any case, that she may be presumptious in her own death,,Mark Twain quote here...would very conceivably lead to the choice Jay mentions.or maybe not.
..So the reader has inkling of hope in any case....
...Now WE..are possibly in a interesting situation. Careful now..bear with me. I speak of Reality now. There was a TV show called " Ed". It ran for four season on NBC and was not re-newed almost a year ago. There was a well established WEBSITE, fan based and supported, stuckeyville.com,,its still there btw. The belief became that the actors and writers and maybe the producers of the show visited the site. It was verified, when plots or details or aspects of Topics of discussions in the website..started showing up on the TV show..honest to God!...Any Ed fans will remember the Grape stompin bit..that was mine ( big whoop de doo),,and ..if you listen to the Halloween episode of the last season,2003-2004...you will hear " lurch" and " bubba" mentioned with in a few moments of each other..Bubba is my dogs name..and yes what kind of pets should be on the TV show Ed ,was discussed...I digress...Question is..Does She stay or does She Go!!?,,,whether heeded or not there is a subject of Grandness..It goes back to the earlier " who does she love more?"...but Donaldson isn't going to make it that easy,,imho. No, there will be paradox in either direction. There will be a couple of narsty twists.
If she comes back or has that option,,where will Lord Fart be?..rite beside her?..Saving her son means allowing The Despiser to come along? Well,,lots of time and opportunity to be of source for Donaldson's consideration...What say?....MEL

Fan forums' influence on writers

Post by Warmark Jay »

Sorry you weren't able to save "Ed", Lurch! It was a great show. But, no disrespect intended, that's for the best. I worry about writers who give in to the sentiments that readers (and viewers) express in forums such as these. One of my favorite shows is "Alias", and I was very disheartened after watching the season opener this week. If you watch the show, you know that the plotlines are often ridiculously complex, and are sometimes left hanging with no apparent resolution. But to me and a great many diehards who've watched the show from the beginning, that was a major part of the show's appeal (second to Jennifer Garner) - you literally never knew where the show was taking you next. The season opener seemed to be an attempt to make the show more accessible to viewers who had never seen it before, and "fans" who were a bit weary of it's complex storyline. One wonders how much that had to do with fan site forums. As a reader, I'd much rather experience what the author intended than what the fans (or, God forbid, the publishers/producers) want, even if those results are a letdown. SRD rarely disappoints because he's true to himself and his story.

quite True...

..Yes Jay,,I completely understand your point. So allow me to smudge some of what i have indicated...your point about compromising to the Majority can be twisted into an example of " desecration"...just because an opinion is held by a so called majority does not mean its " right".
...What I am getting at...is for a wide open as possible,,unfettered,,exceeding any expectation,,expression of imagination and thought, in any direction,,that allows the Rhiter of The Wurd a pick and choose for and to his own wishes and machinations. Totally free expressions are free of expectations of the beholder,,in a sense. With this orientation I perceived a " magic' about it at the "Ed" site.
...What happen to ED was the sad consequence of the NBC Programming Chief ( jeff Zucker),,making decisions as arrogant as " NBC knows what their viewers want",,and then broadcasting new season of which 90 percent was cancelled within 3 months. He believed he knew what Ed fans wanted and blew it. YET,,the producers, World Wide Pants,,Dave Letterman's Co. ..got revenge all during the last season and especially in the last epidode...If there ever was a one finger flip off to network exec's On network TV,,everso delivered slyly like a stilleto in a crowd..the last episode of " Ed"..was it...Its my opnion that letterman and crew really never acquiested or lost their Truth. I nearly woreout a keyboard in proving that to the victims of " Zuckers Dirt"..In a sense,,i can relate to Lindens and maybe Donaldsons plite......MEL

Lurch, I can tell you have been influenced by SRD in your life!

I was picking through your words -

desecration... unfettered... machinations... lost their Truth

Hmmm... must be the Despiser behind the corruption of "Ed". ;)
