The Krill of Loric
What does it REALLY do?
In the first Chronicles, it did nothing other than destroy Samadhi Satansfist - referred to as a "power strong enough to bear any might."
In the second Chronicles, SRD appears to have used it more, but still didn't really define where its power came from, or its uses.
Insights anyone?

I thought about where the correct place for posting would be and decided here, becausedlbpharmd wrote:This belongs in Runes forum, doesn't it? It seems that any discussion that might ensue could potentially contain spoilers.
Spoiler
we haven't seen the krill of Loric yet, if we will at all, in Runes

The Krill is like a Lord's staff, and Pitchwife's pitch, and perhaps like many other things besides: it is a means of articulating power.
SRD likes to use that word; I like it too, because it refers to both uttering speech as well as movable joints. To my mind, power is spoken, but it needs a mechanism to leverage that power so that it's utterance can be felt. A scientist might consider the Krill a means of converting one kind of energy to another.
So the Krill is an ideal means of articulating one's power. The fact that it is somewhat sensitive to the white gold is a side effect of who created it and how it was created. This sensitivity may not have been intentional; it it was, then we may need to wonder what Loric was able to forsee.

Well, as far as seeing it again. I have no doubt we will, since we are going to be galloping thru time and all. It's bound to turn up sooner or later.

And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

Thanks, danlo. My whole point in moving this was that I was afraid that any talk of the krill would be necessity have to include the Viles and Demondim, and could cause spoiler problems in TC forum.danlo wrote:I'm going to stick this in the Runes forum. Fret not, these two forums will merge soon enough.

You bet we'll see the krill again. TC might have already retrieved it from Andelain.

Was anyone else disappointed at the ending of the krill in the Second Chronicles?
"Stabbed deep into the tree trunk beyond all hope of recovery was the krill..."
I remember thinking, WTF? Couldn't Covenant just reactivate it with his ring and pull it out of the trunk? After all, High Lord Mhoram was able to pull it out of a stone table with LESS power than Covenant had.
The krill intrigues me because it appears to have tremendous power that is never tapped. Hell, the krill has done more powerful things (ie, alter the Sunbane, break the Law of Life, destroy a fragment of the Illearth Stone, rise to the surface of Glimmermere) than the Staff of Law.

AND... Loric also held the Staff of Law in his time, and apparently that wasn't enough to counter the threat of the Demondim.dlbpharmd wrote:I certainly was disappointed. The krill has always fascinated me.
Something about the Demondim threat in the time of Loric could not be answered by Lore and Earthpower alone. Loric was forced to create a weapon to answer that threat. Why?
My intrigue is growing...

Forgive me, because I swear I asked this in another thread but I can't find it, but why would the Krill be the weapon against the Demondim?
Loric is called "Vile Silencer" not "Demondim Silencer".
The Viles came before the Demondim.
I think there's one sentence out there that says it was used against the Demondim but to me it seems like that's either an error or we are missing a piece of info.
And one more thing but I don't have the book in front of my today.
In Runes isn't it hinted that Loric actually failed or didn't understand what he had done with his "silencing".
Or something like that... or am I whacked?

Loric created the Krill. Loric faced the Viles. Kevin faced the Demondin. Runes has a story that says the Demondin were used to get rid of the Viles. Then the Demondin were taught despite by the Ravers, and turned nasty. It also speculates that one of the reasons Kevin invoked the Ritual of Desecration was because he couldn't defeat the Demondin.
I'm not sure it says which one (Loric, or Kevin) used the Demondin to get rid of the Viles?
I think the Krill is like a *power amplifier* it let's you use more of the earthpower, or maybe any power? Without hurting yourself. Morham speaks of it, but I don't have the books in front of me.
