I love Depeche Mode, too. Why would anyone laugh?

Actually people shouldn't laugh. It's just me reliving my teen years/early twenties with a sense of fondness and loathing!! :D

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with fun, fluffy music as long it isn't trying to something else.

That's just it. I like fluffy bunnies, not fluffy music. I like The Rain Song, the not The Birdie Song. But yeah, at least the 80s didn't pretend to be anything but that.

The 80's:
Fresh out of school and the birth of MTV,
(When they actually played music videos 24/7.
And, you had to BE somebody to be on MTV) 8)

Pinball had almost faded away while videos games was evolving into the monster it is today,
though the graphics were primative then by today's standards. :P

Computer Generated Imaging (CGI) movies were a fairly new concept. 8O

New laws were cracking down (hard) on drugs & alcohol usage.
(*sarcastic* Thanks Nancy Reagan for "Just Say No") :-x

SDR was writing/releasing the Second Chronicles! :Hail:

I graduated High School in '82 and quit my job at the local grocery store to work as a game room attendant at Malibu Grand Prix. I was living the dream. One of the coolest things that happened while I worked there was at that time all game room tokens were the same size. Every monday I'd have to sort through all of the tokens for the week and remove all of the competitors tokens from ours. Every so often on a friday night my manager would give me a bag of hundreds of tokens from Chuck E Cheese or Showbiz as long as I promised to use them only in the proper places. My friends and I would spend hours playing games for free. It was so cool! Sometimes I really miss the 80s.

Ahhhh, the 80s.

-Hours spent dumping quarters into Missile Command, Galaga, Qix, and Tempest.

-Being in 8th grade and dating a 10th grader....

-Priest, Maiden, Dio...Couldn't hear for 3 days after a good concert.

-Two words...."Glacier Glasses"

-Being on the Sunset Strip in '89 and loving the energy and debauchery of the hair metal scene.

Good times baby, good times.

1980--my first year of teaching

(Oh, my god...I could've had CAIL in class!)

1984--first time I was budget cut in slash and burn Reaganomics cuts to education funding.

Musically, I remember Bonnie Tyler being someone I liked--"I need a hero" being one of my favorite songs from that period.

ANd I liked "Jump" too. I was younger then and chaperoned all the dances--JUMP always got everyone hopping.

Hee hee.

Being born in '80 meant i missed some of the good stuff. Thanks to various people and so on I was introduced to the 70's at an early age, so actually feel much happier listening to that era of music.
The 80's did bring forth some great stuff though!
Sisters of Mercy and U2 were just a couple of them :)

Ah, the eighties. I...

...graduated from high school and entered medical school
...got my first stereo and listened endlessly to Dark Side of the Moon
...watched Blues Brothers probably 8,000 times with my buddies and listened to blues and Floyd
...got my first computer, a mighty Texas Instruments 1000, a ZX81 clone
...likes the ones like Police, Blondie, Omega, LGT (Hungarian bands), Deep Purple, etc.

I just saw Glen Tillbrook this last weekend in Hoboken at a club called Maxwell's. Glen Tillbrook was lead singer and guitarist for Squeeze |G , for those who don't know. The concert was phenomenal and I loved every second of it. Its a small club, so Glen was down in amongst the audience for a long time and all of the songs were interactive, with the crowd supplying the ohh-oo-oo-ohhs for "Tempted".

Anyway, what a throw back to highschool ('80-'84). I have no idea what my soon to be released child will have as far as music when he/she is in highschool in 14 years. God I hope it is at least something fun like we had and not HipHop, which I guess may be fun for some, but I never see a group of people singing along to older Hip-hop songs except for a line or two which might have been funny.

We'll see...

 my older sisters always had the neighborhood Friday night dances at our house, I was like 3 and they were teenagers. My two kids grew up in the 80's and we continued the tradition. All the kids hung out at our house, and we danced, cooked, ate, and did a lOT of laughing.
We had such a wide range of music always going on.....everything from 40's swing--real oldies-- to the latest rock. PLUS.....we had a family band and we sang professionally--country gospel. We had a lot of fun.

Went and saw a local band, Never Never, last night in Baltimore that plays nothing but Zeppelin, Nugent, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and the Stones. Took me back to my high school days....

David Bowie discovered Stevie Ray Vaughn, and made "Let's Dance" with him. What a great album! Peter Gabriel's "So" was great too, as was the stuff by XTC, Bauhaus, the aforementioned U2 and Madonna, Rush, REM, and so on. Live Aid happened in '85. WHat a decade!
