The Forgotten

Post by dlbpharmd »

Saw this movie yesterday. It's is definitely better than the reviews suggest. Julianne Moore is absolutely radiant, and Gary Sinise does a good job playing her psychiatrist. If you don't see this at the theater I definitely recommend it for DVD.

Yes it has Julianne Moore (my hearthrob) Gary Sinise, Dominick West and Anthony (Dr. Green/Top Gun) Edwards. Yes it has, for the most part, an interesting plot line and a "Mothman Prophesies" feel, but where does it go from there? In fact where did it go? What actual point was it trying to make? The demonic, unkillable, alien, Jeff Provost (host of Survivor) lookalike, who sorta seemed like a "poor man's Q", didn't convince me of what was actually going on or why (or why bother :? ). As a matter of fact he didn't really convince me of anything. Yes we've seen a number of movies like this: In Dreams, Sixth Sense, Gothika and on and on-they, however, succeded in getting their points across. Another one of these movies that appears to have a whole lot going for it, but due to something...(budget cuts maybe? :P)...decided to arbitarily drop the ball instead of persuing, potentially, fascinating concepts. :-x

I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard a couple of other people say pretty much what you're saying. I may wind up passing on this one!

I remember initially liking this movie, but it's been so long now since I saw it that I don't remember enough about it to try to answer any of your questions. Will have to rent it soon.

If I hadn't gone with a friend who is easily amused, I would have walked out on it. I was glad I had popcorn.

I liked the WHOOOSSSHHHH up into the air effect. Other than that I thought it was passable. A nice "outer limits" type film. But I also got it on DVD - might be better on the small screen. [I like alternative ending better as well!]

Yeah, the people getting snatched out of this plane of reality was pretty cool and always unexpected.

Heh heh.

What was the alternate ending?

Ahh, the Forgotten. Haven't seen it yet. I thought you were talking about the Clint Eastwood film, which I just remembered is the Unforgiven. That was a great film; very realistic.

If you really want to know:
Spoiler
The alien was very sadistic in the end scenes in the movie. The alternative ending had him ... not so much sympathetic but ... clinical. And he completed his experiment SUCCESSFULLY by seeing that our hero remembered her child. No WOOOOSSSSHHH for the alien. He is seen in the end scene at the playground smiling at the reunited mother and son ... and then he just walks alway. I think I like that version better than the screaming, glass shattering, face morphing, alien bad guy!

the whoosh effect was nice. but the writer ruined a great mystery premise with an alien crapfest ending.

I only saw the extended version on DVD. I compared the extended/alternate ending to the theatrical ending and I agree with Creator--the alien character is more believable as an observer. He is nothing more than a scientist conducting an experiment.

Others I've talked to who've seen both the theatrical version and ext version claim that the extended answers a few questions. It seems that the theatrical version had a few holes in it.

I've only seen the extended version. I thought the whole alien concept was a bit of a cop-out. Not a bad movie, just....forgetable.
