Why does time run so differently betw the Land & Earth?

Post by Steve Hurtloam »

Is this a well thought out thing? Is there an explanation, or is it just a plot device?

Any evidence with regard this?

As far as SRD has said, the time difference was mearly a plot device to move things along. Otherwise Covenant would be 40 years older in The Illearth War and I don't think that would have worked. ;)

It also helps to confuse the poor reader of the first Chrons whether it is a dream or not :-P Time moves differently in dreams.

And it would kind of suck if it was the other way around.

Imagine, Linden Avery spends 10 years of her life out doing whatever after the Second Chronicles and then returns to the Land, and Sunder and Hollien have yet to leave Andelain! :P

Or better yet, the duration of time that happens when he leaves the land and re-enters it between the original three books is about fifteen minutes.

"Mhoram?"
"Oh, uh..we decided we needed you here. Again."
"Uh...why?" *looks up at the rampaging Fire-Lions*
"No reason, really. The book would just sort of suck if it was about forty years of you doing nothing on your world while we waited, so we just went ahead..."

Wouldn't work at all!

It makes it really interesting to see how Covenant reacts to the time change and how he is still remembered after all these years when almost all the old Lords do is forgotten by the second chrons.

I think I would call a Plot Device a Plot Device.

(A spade is a spade)

Especially when it comes to time dilation in "The Land".
