Time differences between our world and the Land

Post by timbley »

I just finished re-reading 6 TC books plus Runes, and I don't remember coming across a passage which I'm SURE I read the first time I read the series (15 years ago!).

The passage I'm thinking of is one where the time differences between our world and the Land are explained. The explanation had to do with the Land's world being closer to the center of all created things (hence also the greater vitality of the Land) and our world being farther out. The distance between them and from the center affected how they experience time.

I'm trying to figure out if this was really in the books, or something that my teenage mind made up to explain the differences??!! Does anybody else remember this passage?

Thanks for any help!

I'm sorry, but I don't think the time difference has ever been explained.

I'm only halfway through Runes, but I just re-read the first 6 books as well. Unless it's in the last half of Runes, I don't remember seeing that any place.

Nope, I do not recall any such line.

In the GI, Donaldson mentions that he sees the Land as "more real" than our reality. This was to explain why no one from the Land could be summoned to our world. Nevertheless, whatever your source was, I would grant it a bit of credibility.

The thing about our world being very far away from the center of reality sounds like Jack Chalker's _Changewinds_ series.
Choiceless, you were given the power of choice. I elected you for the Land but did not compel you to serve my purpose in the Land... Only thus could I preserve the integrity of my creation.

I must have been dreaming

Wow - looks like I was dreaming or something. Could have sworn it was in the books somewhere, but I guess I'm wrong. Too bad, it seemed very convenient. :-)

Thanks!!

Actually, the explanation sounds a little like Roger Zelany's Chronicles of Amber series with shadows of reality and Amber and Chaos being the originals.

i actually recal seeing somethign liek that too. however, i find the books themselves hide pages and show extra pages on me sometimes, so don't worry. it'll turn up sooneror later. :P
