Someone helped me once,
and saved me from the void that sought to engulf me.
I see others, threatened by that same void.
How can I ever turn away,
from even one?

This hurts me,
but the pain is good.
It reminds me why I live,
for others. If I did not do all in my power,
for all that I can,
the unhappy soul would be my own.
If I do all I can,
I will never be unloved.

It's true, only some will I meet on my path,
but it is I who choose that path, and I who must walk it,
alone.
Gifts given are only gifts if accepted, I accept
all that I can,
all the pain, the joy, the sorrow, the fear,
I make it mine, and it becomes me.

If I ignore my what if's,
and the consequences of each possibility,
each decision, then I cause pain.

I know this, it has happened, again
and again and again and again.
The guilt is enough to make me pause,
make me ask myself
"why this path, why this way?"
Consider my options, consider love.
The journey is inevitable,
beginning at birth, ending in death.
My path is the path of love, and by walking it,
I become it. My story becomes a link in
the chain of love that stretches back to the beginning of humanity,
for the story of humanity is the history of love.
Start where you are,
use what you have,
do what you can.

The paradox of it all
is that you do make choices,
and even though you can try,
you can't continually keep changing your mind
in every situation, hoping to effect perfection
by backing up and doing over what's been done, what's been chosen and decided on,
even though I know you want to.

Joan Baez sang that love was
just a four letter word....
But no matter how much pain
we have experienced or caused,
we know that love is so much more
than we ever even thought it was.

You said that the story of humanity is
the history of love.....
What a profound and wonderfully true statement.
Volumes could be spoken and written
on just this one statement.
I shall go and meditate on it for a while
"let the storm of thought spend itself. Presently you will arrive upon a calm sea."......Walter Lanyon

Meditate on this, then:

We can only hate what we love.
Only that which we care about can truly wound us.
We cannot scorn what we have not paid attention to.
We cannot reject what we have not accepted.
Only that which has begun can end.
Only that which has been brought into existence can be destroyed.

Throughout time we are asked to respect the dark,
for without it, there can be no light...
but I've never bought it......
I could know love without knowing hate.
Start where you are,
use what you have,
do what you can.

If I follow you into this deep
Can you protect me?
Will you save me from drowning
if my soul becomes overwhelmed?

Love is strong as death
The Scriptures say.
Does that mean it is inescapeable?
Will you find me
No matter where I am
No matter how long it takes
Will you find me?
"let the storm of thought spend itself. Presently you will arrive upon a calm sea."......Walter Lanyon
