This must surely be coincidence - famous and successful authors have no reason to steal ideas, right?

I'm reading Dean Koontz's take on Frankenstein - Prodigal Son, co-written with Kevin J. Anderson.

There is a young autistic boy obsessivly building a castle of Lego blocks in his bedroom.

I used to enjoy Dean Koontz's books - his earlier works are very good. I grew tired of the formulaic plots of his later books though, and stopped reading them.

Also, why does he always name the protagonist's son/adopted son "Colin"?

The absolute WORST Dean Koontz book I ever read was "From the Corner of His Eye" - a total pile of crap. I was so disgusted with the book when I finished it (yes, I read it to its sorry end, desperately hoping it would improve) I wanted to go back to the bookstore where I bought it and demand a refund.

I agree that Koontz's best days are behind him. I think he was at his peak during the late eighties - that's when he wrote Wathcher, Lightning, Shadowfires and Twilight Eyes.

I hadn't noticed the Colin connection, but then again, I haven't read many of his books since 2000 and his inexplicable inability to finish the Christopher Snow trilogy, which fans have been waiting for now since 1999.

Does anyone know why Koontz and his wife have no children? Is that a choice on their part? He sure seems to feature a lot of children in his works.
