Hi guys! As a 'newbie', i suggest you create a welcome message for all new members that opens automatically when they join. (if such a thing is possible...?)

Apart from 'Hi - and welcome!", this message would say, 'before you post any new threads, please read the **New Threads!!** thread located here.' and then you'd have a 'link' to this thread!

Having just read this whole thread, and gotten a glimpse of what you old-timers ( ;) ) go through, i will be very careful before i post a new thread!, which is what is desired, no? :D

I don't feel guilty or undervalued or anything - just respectful of those that have been here longer than i.

This is a great sight, moderated by great people. Thanks for doing the job you do!

(Gee, could i have said 'thread' any more times? :? )

Excellent outlook, Earthfriend. I'm an old enough new timer to remember what it feels like, but I also say a little caution and research before you step into the water is always beneficial. Not bad suggestions, in my opinion.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Makes sense to me :) You guys think a Welcome PM with a bunch of detail will do the trick?

I'm a relative newbie since I signed on a couple of nights ago... found this particular forum when searching info for another TCTC fan I met on yet still a different forum. Gonna refer him to this so watch out more newbies on the way.

Some of the threads of THIS topic I read and some gave me an "uh-oh" when it was suggested that newbies be corralled into a whole different section before joining the old timers.

I'm currently participating in the thread exploring the movie option to our beloved saga. Some of the dates of the thread gave me pause as I didn't want to be beating the proverbial dead horse (never a Ranyhyn!...those Ramen scare me). I went ahead and posted my views anyway and it looks like someone nibbled at the newly offered bait I dangled.

This is my third posting and while I'm thrilled to have found a discussion group dedicated to one of my favorite series (read all 6 each year for the last 16 years...just can't get enough and it's long enough to make for a good bedtime story...if you're a Giant that is.

I own and moderate one YahooGroups board and moderate still another. It is tough to prevent newbies from bringing up an old subject but out of consideration it's tolerated because as someone else mentioned (ya'll) were all once newbies and searching around the ole' archives for a thread to answer a question is the long way around when it's easier to ask anew and fresh.
One person could volunteer to accomidate the newbie's question if it's indeed a dead horse, which I do with my group(s). Or as some one else here on this particular thread mentioned a fresh perspective could be added to an otherwise old pot of stew. Kinda like dropping a couple of drops of tabasco sauce in a old pot of chili. Wakes it up don't it?

Anyway... long winded as I may be (past life I probably WAS a giant) I'm glad to have found this discussion board and hope that it will bring new life to an old friend ... The TCTC saga.

Welcome seafoam! Be welcome and true.
But could you possibly find another Giantship? I've grown rather attached to this one. :)

Seafoam,
Since this thread had been dead for 3 months before your post, and nothing had been done along the lines of controlling anyone, I assume this issue had been dropped. Which is how I think it should be. Whenever someone starts a new thread about something that's already had its own thread, one us usually just bumps the old one. That's as much as I think we need to bother with. I think trying to figure out anything else that would not badly damage the Watch would be difficult. I don't know, the issue just doesn't bother me. *shrugs*

And, much as I hate to ask such a thing, could you change your avatar? My first thought was, "Huh? Dromond changed his name???????" lol :)

And welcome to the Watch!!

And disregards the rest
