Wayhnim

Post by balon! »

Ok, so in various parts of WGW Hamako states something along the lines of "There will be no more (Wayhnim)" So this makes me think, the Wayhnim and Ur-viles were created by the Demodim, and the Ur-viles were the only ones directally metioned with "breeding dens", so do the Wayhnim make themselves? Asexual reproduction? Also I would think that each Rysh's Weird would corrospond to breeding in different ways. Any comments?

In The Wounded Land chapter 16, SRD wrote:"The numbers of the Waynhim are only replenished because the ur-viles continue the work of their Demondim makers. Much breeding is yet done in the deeps of the Earth, and some are ur-viles, some Waynhim — and some are altogether new, enfleshed visions of lore and power. Such a one is your companion [Vain]. A conscious making to accomplish a chosen aim."
Without the Quest, our lives will be wasted.

There you have it.

Although, I never understood why the ur-viles would be making Waynhim, given that ur-viles seem to have historically been the "evil" version of Waynhim. Why wouldn't the Waynhim create more Waynhim themselves?

They did make Vain, though, so I guess they could be doing something like the Waynhim did with the Waymeets: atoning for the evil of their lore through service of the Land.

From what SRD says in the GI, the difference between the ur-viles and the waynhim is less genetic than it is behavourial.

As far as I can tell, the ur-viles create a demondim-spawn, that then looks at itself and defines itself as ur-vile or waynhim by it's reaction to its own un-naturalness, being made and there fore lacking the justification of birth.

So a spawn that hates what it is and seeks to become what it is not becomes an ur-vile and develops the appropriate physical features, whereas a spawn that looks at itself and then seeks to give meaning to what it is by serving what it is not becomes a waynhim and displays those physicalities.

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

He knew only that they had never striven to reject the boundaries of themselves.

I think it say's some where that the ur-viles didn't start out being evil. They where corrupted by foul to hate what they are and what they have become. If I find it, I will let you know.

In many ways, waynhims are a "collateral product" of the ur-viles's breeding dens. As variol son points out, SRD explained that the main difference between the ur-viles and the waynhims is that the former hate and loathe themselves due to their unnatural existance, while the latter seek to "make restitution" by serving the world and therefore hoping to find a justification for their existence.
It follows that every breeding pen will inevitably spawn some waynhims along with all the ur-viles; simply because it is not possible to predict with 100% accuracy whether the demondim spawn about to be created will hate itself or not. Therefore, the only way not to produce any more waynhim would be to stop the creation of other ur-viles as well.

Of course, this is a bit of a moot point now...

It's neat to see how the hatred the ur-viles have over the centuries for the wanhym hasn't really come into play under White Gold Wielder.

What I mean is, the ur-viles were mean and evil; like the way they attacked the wraiths...but in WGW they try to exterminate the wanhym...never before though; they only did it because they thought the wanhym comprimised their own wierd.

So even though they are fundementally eminies, they still respected eachothers wierds.

IDHTBIFOM but aren't urviles a dark grey as compared to the ur-Viles black?
That seems kinda genetic to me.

Your idea contradicts the idea of how I envision "making", I think.
I don't think that there are children/developing spawn that grow or mature into either ur-Vile or Waynhim.
I always thought of it as the lore that the ur-viles had for creation was limited.
It took Lord Foul to give them the lore that made it possible for the creation of Vain, ironically.
As I write this I realized that my ideas on this aren't as clear as I had thought!
