I haven't seen it myself, but, was anyone really expecting a film of major cinematic worth?
Actually I was pleasantly surprised by Freddy vs. Jason. Best Freddy movie since #4, and best Jason movie ever, IMHO.

I am a fan of both franchises. Since I missed it at the theater (thankfully) I picked up the dvd to add to my collection good or bad. Of course I watched it. I expected the film to be horrid. Instead it was mildly entertaining if a bit insulting. I've watched it through twice and well....
Here are my favorites of the two series in the order that I enjoyed them.
1. Alien
2. Aliens
3. Predator
4. Alien 3
5. Predator 2
6. Alien Resurrection
7. Alien vs. Predator
I think that pretty much explains my opinion.

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
Full of the heavens and time.

I haven't seen it either, but that's the attitude I'm going into it with. I'll likely rent it today, since the kids are away.sindatur wrote:I haven't seen it myself, but, was anyone really expecting a film of major cinematic worth?
Me too! Wasn't that a riot?!sindatur wrote:Actually I was pleasantly surprised by Freddy vs. Jason.

Well, my previous post said I'd likely rent it that day, which was almost a year ago. I finally saw it last night. I'm with sindatur and dlb. I didn't expect anything out of it but a rip-roarin' good time, and I got it. Some very cool fights between them!
And I like that ending that was so expected, and so obviously sets up a sequel.

It's not a great film, but it was entertaining.

Like you Don, I watched with no expectations, and I thought it was merely ok. A good way to fill in a few hours on a wet Sunday afternoon.
I can't say I have seen Predator 2, but I liked Resurrection, even if only for Ripley's crazy-ass quotes, and that look that she got in her eyes when should told everyone they were doomed.
If anything, it was Wynona Ryder's completely unneeded presence that annoyed me.

I didn't have any problem with P2. No, not as good as the original, but how could it be? It was the same thing in another location. We knew what was going on, so no surprises, and all that. Just some fun action, and very cool weapons. The constricting razor-net, the razor frisbee. Good, clean fun!
A2 is one of those rare instances where the sequel is as good as the original. Same with Lethal Weapon, imo. (As opposed to the two worst sequels in movie history: Highlander and Raiders.) A2 is freakin' awesome!
It remains to be seen how AvsP2 will fare against the original.
