Saul Bellow 1915-2005

Post by danlo »

I figured this forum would be a better place than General Discussion to honor the memory of Saul Bellow. The more serious readers seem to come here. That's not to say that Saul Bellow was always serious, he had his detractors, but he had a magnificent gift for writting and a very sharp wit. He ONLY won 3 National Book Awards a Pulitzer Prize and a Nobel Prize. I've only read Humbolt's Gift and Mr. Sammler's Planet but they helped break me out of the infinite deep thought James Huxley and Herman Hesse had me spiraling in...

Ninety, huh? Well, nobody can say he didn't live a full life.

I've only read Seize the Day. A good, but not spectacular book, IMHO. And rather depressing.
