Yay, my book is winning. Heh. So I'm not completely crazy for saying it's my favorite. Or am I...? Heh.
For some reason I remember really liking the begining to TPTP. I think it began with Covenant back in his home world, going completely insane. Then you throw in the whole thing with the girl... Wow, great stuff. I need to read just the begining of that book again. Heh.

But in the end I went for TIW, because that's where SRD's narrative style really hit full stride, I think, and that book shows us more of the Land in its natural state than any of the other books. Revelstone, Revelwood, Trothgard, the Center and South Plains, Garroting Deep, Seareach, the Sarangrave . . . I was dazzled when I first read it.
Without the Quest, our lives will be wasted.

Variol, those are both great, another two reasons why it's my favorite. It had a sense of history, the repeating of the battle of the forces of the Lords against the forces of Corruption, and the geography is detailed, the ruined city and Garroting Deep... but SRD's Style really hit full swing there, and it resembled TPTP much more closely than it did LFB

I have made a list of my order of preference.
1. The Power that Preservers
2. White Gold Wielder
3. The Wounded Land
4. The Illearth War
5. Lord Foul's Bane
6. The One Tree
The Runes of the Earth is too new to have found its place on the list, but it would be neither at the top or the bottom. Gilden Fire is not a true book and doesn't count.
The Power that Preserves is the uncontested winner for me. It has the emotional force and the successful pacing that no other book in the series quite reaches. "Lord Mhoram's Victory" is just one of the highlights.

There are parts of all the other books that I like more than any in LFB, but as a whole book... it will always be LFB. The background, the basic premise, the essence... it's all in that single book. And as a single book, the story stands better than any of the others, imo (though The One Tree is a close second).

I totally agree with all of that.Cail wrote:Like Jay, I've always said TPTP. I think it does such a masterful job of taking away everything we love about the Land (Bloodguard, Hurtloam, the Sun), and then redeeming everything in the end. A real surprise twist for an ending, and a hell of a ride getting there.
TWL is a close second.
LFB is my least favorite by far.

Lord Foul's Bane...even though it was the first of 3 books(at the time) it seemed to leave things completed in the end, even though everybody knew that Foul was getting his armies ready...
it was between that one and Illearth war, but lfb edges out Illearth War cuz that one was pretty sad...

I vote for Power that preserves
The original 3 books of thee First chronicles are easily the best. Power That Preserves just clinches it, because it brings that trilogy (as it was) to climax and a conclusion, but Lord Foul's Bane and the Illearth War are very close behind.
Even the very wise cannot see all ends.
